SQ B744 Megatop Name Disappearing?

Was looking through pictures of SQ's fleet and noticed they have started to remove the MEGATOP name from the B744 fleet. While I know they usually named their aircraft type, the A340/B777 names seemed to disappear quite quickly, but the MEGATOP label remained for a long time on the B744 fleet. Anybody got any inside info. on whether it is being removed in preparation for the A380 entering service next yr?

Well, the A388 has an even bigger top, so the Megatop isn't so mega anymore on the 744...

In that case, why not just name all of the A380s "GIGATOP"? Seems logical.

This has been discussed many times. Seems as if this thread is appearing on a weekly basis now.

Let's just blame it on yields.

Apparenty the current CEO doesn't like the aircraft names and is having them removed, partly why the A340-500s lost their LeaderSHIP (think that's right) name very early on. Pity, especially as it made SQ seem more special I think

Would anyone be willing to give a list of the current and recently departed aircraft in the SQ fleet and the corresponding names, and perhaps some explanation of them. I know some of the names are self explanatory IE 743 big top, 744 megatop, but some like jubilee and leadership have slightly more nebulous descriptions. Any info would be appreciated.

But he seems to like ugly big titles which are screwing up SQ's image, why do airlines eventually have to end up with top men having bad taste that they decide to unleash on the airlines scheme.

Boeing 777- Jubliee, I think its because they entered service on the 50th anniversary of the founding of SQ (or the predessecor)
Boeing 747-200- Super B
Airbus A310- 3TEN
Airbus A300- Superbus

I know there's few more, can't remember what SQ called their 757s

B743 - BIGTOP
B744 - MEGATOP
A343 - Celestar
A345 - Leadership (dropped quicker then most other names though)

I can't find any reference to names for the B707/727/737/757 fleet.

The was dropped because of a potential lawsuit from a Finnish company that owned a vessel in that same name. After the demise of LeaderShip, the death of the rest of the monikers followed pretty quickly.

Since the rumour is of that the present boss doesn't like the names, he used the opportunity to erase the rest of the gang that we have all been so fond of.

I'm not sure if this has ever been made official, nor were they painted on the aircrafts, but I seem to recall that SIA "might have" referred to their B727 fleets at one stage as "High Tails" - I've seen a postcard of it around somewhere, though that was a long time ago - around 1978 I think..!
