Hello all:
I am wondering what the opinions are about the current food concessions at Oakland International Airport. Seems like they will be upgraded this fall with the opening of the T-2 extension. Looks like there will be national and local chains. From the Video it looks like it's gone from bad food to hmmm that looks good. I am wondering if OAK is doing this because there will be a HKG flight coming in to make it feel more international, and maybe try to attract another carrier for another destination? Maybe Europe like they did with Martinair or Corsair?. link is listed below. I'm glad as I fly out of there frequently and wish that the services would be improved.

In T1, they blow. Big time. So the improvements in T2 will mean nothing to those of us that use T1.
If it wasn't for the fact that OAK is cheaper and more convenient than SFO, I'd never set foot in the place.

Well, it's not like you can't traverse between the two w/o leaving security.
IMO, the food choices are lousy at best. Off beat and over priced. To me it seems they didn't know what direction to head in concerning food choices. But maybe that will change.

Well you can walk from T1 to T2 and it's not far, especially if you have time to kill. Looks like the new venues will be down at the T2 new addition where most of the action is anyways.
T1 is busy, but the Southwest terminal carries a lot of passengers and is always jammed packed especially on friday nights. It's not a bad Airport, they(The Port of Oakland) never thought OAK could grow how it has been.

You are being very kind. The officials that oversee OAK have been asleep at the wheel for years.
Where's the new parking garage? The one that was supposed to be open in 2006?
SFO has absolutely no room for growth in terms of available land for additional runways. SJC is pretty constrained as well. So just where was all the passenger growth in the Bay area going to go?

The flight to HKG will be operated late fall by Oasis Hong Kong Airlines. This will be a new low cost airlines that will fly between HKG and London, Cologne...and a few more places. The places mentioned for the US is San Francisco(OAK) and Chicago(ORD).
The new parking garage has been stalled partly due because of the location of the proposed new terminal at OAK. There is a chance that a T3 will pop up, designs have this above T1 at the entrance to the UA Hangar. Also the other plan for the new T3 is NW of the Fedex hangar area.
There's many possible scenarios for it. Also BART has not gotten all of the funding for the Oakland Airport Connector(OAC) which is an important part of the Parking Garage. The OAC is supposed to go into a part of the parking garage and connect to T1. The new date given for the parking garage and OAC are 2009.
Also note that T1 will be renovated and extended by 7 gates mainly where Gate 1-3 extends out. Or I could be wrong, 2009 is the date when all the renovations are supposed to be done.

Well, if the renovations to T1 follow the same timeline as the new - nonexistent - parking garage, I wouldn't plan on seeing them before 2014.

2014 - shoulds like the proper timetable to get anything done in Oakland.

I have said this before, but it bears repeating. I am 56 and OAK T1 is not changed much since I was in college. I used it then and now. It is bearable because the options SFO and SJC are worse. The Bay Area in general, has the worst overall group of airports, especially for an area so large and important.
I do not feel it is an option to walk from T1 to T2 for better food. T2 is always extremely crowded which makes it less desirable than T1 even if it is better.
