How exciting is that?

Oh, well, it's only for one day as a charter in September....

Twice on September 8th. Once in the morning and once in the evening.

I wish that this could be regularly scheduled service from RFD!

JetBlue has a huge hole with not servicing the Chicago area.

I'm sure it's not official or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if people are taking notes from the airline about the airport while they are there.

Of course, I'm sure they have done all the research they need, but there's nothing like flying your own metal in there to try things out.

Great news! Hopefully if this goes over well we will see JetBlue at RFD on a regular basis. Itd be another airline to choose to visit the parents back in RFD.

I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

I'm personally expecting an annoucement in September for jetBlue to formally announce their intentions to serve Rockford. This may be an evaluation of the airport. I'm hoping that jetBlue will announce service to Rockford at the big airshow that will be going on in Rockford September 22-24.

It is all speculation, but there is always hope for us residents of Illinois that don't live in Chicago.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I'm sure the Airport Manager in RFD will be right there to meet the aircraft,I've met him, seems to be a good guy, believes in RFD,,I bet he has every airline's top execs in his speed dial,I do hope he gets some more air service into the community.

According to Mapquest, the fastest route from central Chicago to RFD is 85 miles (94 minutes) and is 101 miles (103 minutes) from central Milwaukee. RFD might attract a million people or so, from metro Rockford and the two cities, The airport would not be too convenient for either city though. RFD would probably make a better connecting airport than for a flight origin or destination.

RFD is an excellent connecting airport for cargo operations. It is UPS' second largest hub.

It might take 94 minutes at 3am, but I've never done that drive that fast. It is a good two hours with Chicago traffic to get to the loop.

I'm sure it'll be fun watching the B6 Airbus share the ramp with the Malev 767 and the several other overseas heavies that the Chicago Rockford Intergallactic Airport enthusiasts have promised us for years Big grin

On an added note, JetBlue started doing BNA charters a month or so before they announced BNA. So, who knows. I'm placing my bets though that about 300 miles to the south of RFD will be where JetBlue goes.  wink

LOL

(And for anyone who doesn't get it...JetBlue already announced BNA service for 8/31/06).

Welcome to the site!

I am sure Jetblue will come to RFD to test it out. RFD will most likely offer it a guarantee like UAX and NWA was offered. Fees will be scrapped etc. B6 will try RFD for the time being because ORD isn't available. If loads don't hold, B6 will drop RFD, and most likely won't loose any money because RFD probably offered the airline a pay cushion if the seats dont fill.

Finally. Thank god. How far is RFD from ORD or MDW? Maybe theyll move to either of these eventually.

To answer your question RFD is about an hour and a half, or around 70 miles to ORD.

what's all this chatter about my airport and JetBlue? Sorry for the edits but as you can see I joined up today and i'm new at this. Anyway, we at RFD "Chicago/Rockford International Airport" have not heard anything specific recently about JetBlue. We are however extremely interested in continued discussions with them. We believe that RFD meets their profile low cost operation outside of major urban area.

Population shift is huge up and out the I90 corridor towards mchenry, Boone and Winnebago counties as well as out the I88 corridor to Kane, Kendall and DeKalb counties. United currently operating 13 rounds a week out of RFD to Denver with more soon more than likely! Allegiant operating 12 to 14 a week to Las vegas and Orlando Sanford, alll at 88% or more full.

Not long ago many said RFD would never land passenger and certainly United would never operate there. we think we are poised to be Chicago's 3rd or 4th airport.
