Wow...must have been a major pain in the rear for United CSRs at LAX. A 777 cancellation full of international connections can't be a walk in the park. Chin up, friends.

I learned in a very hard way that if I HAVE to make it, it's best to go a day early.

I dont know what is going on with UA recently. In July I had 3 trips on them. All 3 of them ran into some kind of problem or another, mechanical or something else. One trip I ended up getting home 19 hours late from LAX.Another time we sat for 3 hours waiting in OMA for teh storms to clear in ORD. When the weather cleared, there was a mechanical and the flight was canceled. We overnighted in OMA.
The worst yesterday was leaving JAC. The computer was down and they checked us in the old fashioned way------by hand. As a result. everyone had to go through secondary screening. If the plane had been full we would still be in JAC. However, it was a light load and we left only 30 minutes late.
Got to Denver in time to make my connection. The incoming aircraft developed a hydraulic problem inbound. After about 45 minutes of UA trying to work on the problem. They did substitute another plane and we left one hour late.
I was expecting someone today on the canceled Flight 946. They will not be arriving until midnight tonight. When I heard that news I really got livid and called UA customer service. I am an elite FF and they offered me $200 in travel vouchers for my string of bad luck. I will give them one more chance and if my IAD-LAX-IAD trip has any problems, I will take my business elsewhere. I might add I am booked on UA 946 later this month.
I really dont know what is going on with UA. For a long, long time despite bankruptcy and all things were operating quite well. However, as I said, things seem to be heading south.

It seems you have bad luck more than anything. I have always had great flights with UA, things seem to be getting better. Just my two cents.

thanks for all your responses. It's 8:34am western pacific time, and today Friday 8/4, the flight has departed LAX 1 min early and is in flight. So I guess it was just a one day thing that caused it to be cancelled yesterday.

I take UA 946 often as a standby and I don't think I've ever seen the flight have a problem. I don't know what happened yesterday, but my guess is it was some sort of one-time issue that could hit any airplane on any airline.
Yeah, I feel sorry for the CSRs. That 777 is almost always full.

Quoting OH-LGA (Reply 8): The flight number UA946 originates in LAX, routes through IAD and has a final destination of AMS. The aircraft does not necessarily do the same.
It does still use a 3-class, international configuration aircraft though.

Which is why they usually use a 744 in the summer.

I fly on this flight frequently! The last time i was on it we departed the gate and then sat at the mechanical center so they could fix something for about 1 hour. Still got there early!

Could any of the recent issues (particularly maintenance) be related to the ridiculously hot weather?
