CO Intl Arrivals At EWR

I don't know if anyone posted this... I arrived at EWR today from Rome on CO, and instead of going to Terminal C like we have in the past, we went to Terminal B and went through Customs and Immigration there. There was a bunch of CO flights that were at Terminal B. I thought that the C3 concourse was going to be used so that all of CO Intl flights could go there. Have they reached their capacity there?

CO opened their own 19 gate Customs and Immigration facility at Terminal C, CO moved all of their International arrivals from B to C when it was complete. This Summer with all the International expansion in the afternoon they are sending some International Arrivals back to B as Terminal C's International gates are full.

There's talk of converting some of the gates in the C-2 concourse to be able to accomodate International arrivals, via a walkway to the C-3 arrivals hall.

The had converted all of the C-2 concourse to regional jets with double jetways for each of the gates. Where would they send all of the regional jets given that they'd have to sacrafice a couple of RJ gates to put in one that would handle international flights?

On the C2 concourse, there are still several gates that are used for mainline jets. My flight to Europe left from gate 106 which is on the C2 concourse... it was a 757. Therefore, there are still gates there that hadn't been converted to a two-jetway gate. I figured that the reason why some of CO's Intl flights are back to Terminal B immigration was because of just being way too busy at C3. I guess that's a good sign.

All C2 gates are capable of handling 737s and such, it's just a matter of the aircraft blocking off other stands in the vicinity which is a waste of capacity.

Several gates in C2, including 102 and 106 on the concourse, are marked out and have equipment to handle widebody 767/777 aircraft. We utilize these gates during the evening rush periods to Europe.

Arrivals in Terminal B, while a bit of a hassle given the distance from the rest of the operation at C, are usually very easy, with short queues and hardly any crowds.

Passengers need to reclear security at any port-of-entry to the United States if connecting to a domestic flight. Customers to whom ease of connection is most important (i.e. business travelers) are generally traveling with very little luggage to begin with so the 'trek', as you put it, to the monorail is hardly difficult.

You make it sound like it's a long distance, if your walking it's less than 800 ft from Terminal B to Terminal C which is roughly the same distance from T-2-T-3 at JFK. If your taking the Airtrain from B to C it's about a 90 second trip.

Also regardless of where you arrive whenever you clear Customs and Immigration you always have to be recleared through security to connect to a domestic flight.

Continental has dozens of arrivals from abroad in the afternoon, and not just from Europe, but also from Asia and Central America. They are probably now sending overflow to Terminal B. The facility there is very similar to the one in C3.

The Terminal B IAB is nice, it's big, bright, and not crowded. Only a handfull of CO's dozens if not 100 daily International flights use Terminal B.

Most other large American Airport such as Chicago Ohare, San Francisco, Atlanta etc. have separate International Arrivals Buildings from which passengers have to transit to other Terminals to connect to Domestic flights.

How is Terminal A like what I understand CO have some domestic flights from there also and you can connect with a transfer bus from Terminal C. Who operates from Terminal A and is it only domestic flights?

What about building a train station under Terminal B and C for an Airport Express to Down town Manhattan and other destinations have there been any talks about that? It seems like all major airports in Europe and also in Asia have fast trains to the airports. I know you can take the A-train somewhere and connect but a station under the terminals would be nice.

EWR has its own station on the N/E Corridor train tracks. It is accessible with the monorail that links all three terminals and parking lots and only takes minutes to get to.
