Why are they relocating LAX's 25L just a few feet south of its current position? Thanks.

Part of the LAX Masterplan.

http://www.laxmasterplan.org/

A parallel taxiway will be built between the new 25L and current 25R to help reduce the number of runway incursions and while also helping to boost airport hourly capacity slightly. The 25L will also be slight longer than current one.

Work started last week with the entire runway & taxiway project is expected to run thru July 2008.

Well, the press says the runway itself will open in 2007. Also, included in the construction plan are the two A380 gates at each end of TBIT.

Thanks for posting the picture though, I haven't this one yet

And if the frequency of ground delay programs since the closure is any sign, it's going to be a *bad* winter for delays at LAX....

The 5:39pm PDX-LAX flight I work everyday has been on flows all week long. I guess the 8:00pm time frame at LAX is pretty busy. I take it they are doing most of the construction at night?

They have already demolished 1/4 of 25L.

What is it? It's A 747-400, but that's not important right now.
