I just noticed this on the BAA Heathrow website. Proposal for the redevlopment of Terminals 1 & 2 into a new terminal called Heathrow East. Planning to open in 2012 in time for the olympic games. It pretty clearly states that this is not a capacity increase development, just an improvment on facilities I guess.

Well, Heathrow East will contain Star Alliance and Virgin Atlantic. So, with United and VS having many flights to the U.S., they probably could do that.
