737-500 Replacement With European Carriers

Since I have always been very fund of this aircraft I was thinking with what these great little aircraft will be replaced with the largest European carriers.
The -500 is the only 737 still in use with AF (although in its final days) and it also plays an important role with BA and LH.
AF will replace it with the A318 which is more of a compromise than an ideal replacement. LH will decide this year but likely will have/had a hard time to find an ideal replacement. They are not very fund of Embraer, the Bombardier C-Series is an uncertain candidate and so far LH has said they are not pleased with the A318 and the 737-600 is also too heavy besides neither BA or LH operate the 737NG.
BA has not so much trouble with the Embraer as Lufthansa and they already have ordered the A318 before but changed their order into A319s.
I think because all of these 3 airlines have a big A32x family fleet it is likely that the great 737-500 will be replaced with the A318 engines not because the A318 is the ideal aircraft but it is the best available option.
Other than AF I think BA and LH would go for the PW powered version rather than the CFMs.
What are your thoughts ?

Also Braathens (now part of SAS) was a big 735 operator, now they only have 13, the others have been leased out or sold...

From countless rumours, the SAS Braathens 735s are still in mint condition and very economical while the newer 736s are dogs, so I won't be surprised if the 736 leaves the fleet before the 735...  Wink

I think airlines will not replace the 735 with another 115-120 seater, I think they'll choose a mix of 100-seaters and 150-seaters for optimum economics instead... my opinion, though  Smile

CSA, who was an early customer for the B737-500 Series aircraft, will replace them with Airbus A319's.

Sabena would have done the same if they didn't go bankrupt.

Aer Lingus has already replaced them with A320's.

Not sure about LOT, I think they still have them, but they are replacing them with Embraer 170/190's.

Correct. There are few left slowly being replaced by Embraers.

Malev Hungarian Airlines replaced their B735s with B736s. MA now has a fleet of 6 B736's as a part of their B737NG fleet.

One of Malev's B735s held the world record for longest "engine on wing time" in regards to its CFM56 engine.

Thanks, did not know about that. I have always thought that SAS and Lauda are the only airlines that operate the -600 in Europe.
