British Airways said on Tuesday it may seek compensation from airport operator BAA Plc for flight disruptions and delays caused by new security measures at London's Heathrow Airport.

"We are giving it serious consideration. We need to look at what the impact has been and we will be taking that into consideration," a BA spokeswoman said.

Analysts expect the disruptions, which have forced BA to cancel more than 1000 flights since last Thursday, could cost the airline more than stg40 ($NZ122) million. BA said it has not yet determined the cost impact.

If BAA effectively grounded BA aircraft at LHR and then charged BA for parking their aircraft there it is clear that BA must look to BAA to provide them with a rebate.
