I just learned that AR is not longer flying to NYC. I made a search in the forum and I couldn't find anything.

When did they stop flying? What happened? Is this temporary or permanent?

Thanks for the info.

Gustavo

AR still flies to New York City on MoTuFr with an A340-200, but the flights are via Miami. I'm not sure why they still bother, since most of the traffic boards in Miami.

Hi Gustavo,

Yes, they're stopping NYC service fairly soon. Excellent discussion of the topic by LVZXV and others can be found here:

They also get back an A340 to the lessor (Airbus Industrie).

Too bad that AR is slowly abandoning the lucrative North American market. AR once offered daily flights to JFK and LAX, and one or two weekly flights to YMX. AR will only remain in MIA, where its market share is relatively weak. AA, AC, CO, DL, and UA will dominate all the routes between Canada, the USA, and EZE. AR may find it difficult to reenter these markets after these other airlines consolidate their fortress hubs at various North American gateways.

Hi Lucas,

Sorry I didn't find that discussion when I searched the topics.

A friend of mine was coming to visit on Christmas and he couldn't book a flight in Aerolineas because they say the flights to NYC will stop at the end of August.

I agree with IAD380. AR is loosing its market within North America. With just a few heavy planes, it seems that is focusing on the regional latin american market.

I wonder if that will change eventually.

I remember when I flew to LA in a 707 (from Jujuy!). The old good times...

Now to be complemented with Lan Argentina and its finally EZE-MIA. You can go to MIA tomorrow from US$611...

Bienvenido abordo! JFK will be axed on 09/09/2006. To think, that same airport saw AR's first jet service back in April 1959. I believe JFK is being axed because it is neither competitive nor profitable with the stop in MIA, but there are many who believe that said stop was added just to make a suitable excuse to drop JFK altogether, ie. it was intentional. A real shame...

They have no airplanes to keep all the international routes.
And obviously, they care more about NZ/Australia market than NY.

5 dollars for every A.Net member... Maybe we can collect some money and help AR. Some old 707 or a IL-62? LOL.

Why they didn't keep the 742? Why? I think AR motto is : "Lo atamos con alambre". It feels like they never take serious steps to improve and positionate the airline as a real world player.
