British Mediteranean are flying an aircraft to Beirut tomorrow (17 Aug) as a positioning flight, returning to London on the 18th as a commercial service.

There's a thread on the go about who and when will service to BEY restart, but I think this is an important enough announcement, and important enough achievement for the battered-but-unbowed city of Beirut, to justify it's own thread.

fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

Alf Mabrook Beirut. Excellent news for BEY and Lebanon as a whole.

Egyptair have provisionally decided to re-start services from 21/08/06, however they will continue to operate the upgraded DAM service (using B777/A332 rather than A320/B735) if it isn't deemed safe to return.

They must have repaired the runways fairly quickly if flights are restarting already! Presumably the terminal itself was relatively undamaged?

I believe there was mention in the other thread about BEY utilizing one of its taxiways (which, apparently was previously a runway) as the main strip as the actual runways were pretty heavily bombed.

Good to hear that commercial service will be returning shortly tho.

Aviation is proof that given, the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.

correct, the taxiway parallel to 03/21 was the old 03/21

either way, great news for BEY.

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

God bless them, the Lebonese people have learned to rebuild as a way of life.

Excellent news- there are so many Lebanese who are looking forward to returning to Lebanon, and what with the enormous amount of reconstruction needed in the country, a fair number of business men visiting to pick up the tenders!

I wonder if MEA will reopen their services to London

Happy -go- lucky kinda guy!
