Today when I was leaving MCO around 1600 local I saw a Vrigin Blue A320 at the LiveTv hangar. Are they flying those planes all the way to Florida to put the PTV's in.

Ok...let's see...

Virgin Blue is down under and flying with 737 equipment without PTV.

Have they lost their certificate? Have they gone to 737's? Are they adding US TV?

mebbe not? grin

It a B737. DJ have purchsed the old screens that are being replaced by B6. The first plane has gone over along with DJ staff so they can then come back and retro fit the rest of the fleet in Aust.

DJ hope to have the entire fleet of 53 done within 8-12 months

I can also confirm it was a 737 Virgin Blue and not an Airbus or Virgin America since I saw the plane.

Its definately Virgin Blue, not Virgin America - the aircraft have been doing approaches and other radio equipment tests at SFB during the night hours.

I doubt jetBlue would supply Virgin America with LiveTV when they can be called somewhat of a competetor if they ever get to flying.

I think Jetblue would be happy to supply Virgin America or any airline for that matter with LiveTV.

The division is meant to be a for profit company, and aggressively markets is services. As is WestJet and Frontier are North American TV customers, while XMRadio which is also marketed by LiveTV is being used by Airtran and United. Its only a matter of time before one of the majors jumps on the LiveTV band wagon now that the industry seems to be climbing out of its slump. When that happens I'm sure JetBlue would be more than happy to outfit a few hundred aircraft and garner the added revenue.

Also dont forget Jetblue recently received a license for inflight Wi-Fi, and has acknowledged its looking to offer the service to 3rd parties once up and running.

Virgin Blue A320? DJ only operate B737-700s and B738s. Is Virgin America going to offer any form of PTVs?

That is what I am getting at. They claim it will be better and B6 didn't sell to Song did they. Sure they will supply to CO or AA if they come knocking because it would be great money but if they don't supply VA they might not get their superior tv's.

If B6 refuse to offer VA LiveTV then VA could easily get IFE like what NZ has nearly finished installing on its long haul fleet.

Beautiful livery, looks nothing like Virgin America's tacky and ugly colorscheme on their A320.

Can't they just get it from another supplier? I'm not sure I fully understand what your're saying here.

The aircraft is actually VH-VBO.

Route and dates for the ferry flight were as follows :

Dep Brisbane 24 July at 1957z for Nadi
Dep Nadi 25 July at 0017z for Kona
Dep Kona 25 July at 2308z for Tuscon
Dept Tuscon 26 July at 0550z for Orlando MCO.

It's due to depart at 1600z on 20 Aug for Melbourne, via the above points.

Shortly after, one of VOZs -800s will fly over for same (don't know which one yet).

Has anyone seen VBO in the air (times/dates etc)? Also, whereabouts is it parked at MCO please?

R

Just for clarification:

  • The aircraft at the JetBlue LiveTV hangar in MCO is a 737 for Virgin BLUE
  • The aircraft at the JetBlue LiveTV hangar in MCO is NOT a A320 for Virgin America

Last year (2005 in March or April IIRC) an announcement was made that LiveTV would provide systems for Virgin America as can be found below.
