After the "new" present-day Lufthansa was allowed to start service in 1955, their first longhaul destination was New York (IDL, which later became JFK) with the first scheduled flight (from HAM and DUS via SNN) taking place in June, 1955. Their next service to North America, to Montreal and Chicago (MDW, later ORD), commenced in April, 1956.

In which years did LH begin service to other now well-established cities in their Germany-North American network, even if as "tag-ons" to other routes? Among the cities that come to mind are:

PHL
BOS
IAD
ATL
MIA
DTW
DFW
IAH
SFO
LAX
YYZ
YVR
MEX

Thanks for any dates that you can provide. The year service began is altogether satisfactory; the month and day, if available, will be considered a bonus.

Not a good answer for you, but I do recall back in the mid 1960's DLH operated a "straight pipe" 707-430 on the PHL-FRA route. Many of their early services on this route stopped in Montreal, but I think at one period they also routed through BOS. Sorry that I am not thorough on this.

YUL and YYZ have been served by LH since the 1960s. YVR has been served since the 1980s (not sure the exact year).

In 2005 I flew ATL - FRA on LH and at the gate there were banners indicating that LH celebrated 25 years of service to ATL. So, I guess that service started in 1980. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Probably the most recent was the FRA-PDX route, with an A343. Started March 31, 2003. 2 years to the day after Delta stopped flying PDX-NRT.
