I've only flown them twice, both times between Newark and Vegas. Both times there were delays on the ground and so-so service in the air. On top of that, the aircraft (757) on both flights was not clean. The comments made by AWA320 are interesting because they show how weak or inefficient leadership at the top can affect the performance of the entire organization, especially in the airline industry. Nothing can cure an ailing corporation faster than good solid leadership that puts both customer satisfaction along with employee retention and loyalty at the top of the agenda. If only they could take their eyes off Wall Street for 5 minutes.... An airline doesn't make money on Wall Street, they make it in the air.

I have flown America West several times this year. I've also flown Continental and America West Express(Mesa-air). The same problems that plauge other airlines, like delays, overbooking, etc... are all at America West. But at times just in seemingly larger quanities. But for the most part I have encountered genuinely friendly and helpful staff here at Sky Harbor and in the air. HP is really a great airline. They offer very competitive fares, often the best fares from the Phoenix market, and full service on their flights. Now if they could just get some good leadership to improve morale of the company and make the right changes on the front than HP is good to go. Everything else is going right. They still have a very young fleet and an excellent route structure with smart growth. They just gotta get Franke out of their and put somebody more capable of empowering the company in charge.

I flew them in april BDL to SMF claer across the continent. Paid $198 round trip. Clean new A319 FA.s were super freindly.I have only good things about them so far. Any airline can screw up so take a trip and see for your self.

I recently flew HP on a PHX-CMH round trip and was pleasantly suprised. The agents and cabin crews were friendly and efficient, the in-flight meals tasty, and the aircraft (A320) were in good repair and clean. Even though I was a positve space non-rev, the gate agent in PHX upgraded me to first class without a hassle. I hope this is a precursor of what's to come from HP in the future.

I have flown on HP several times when the price is right.When I get to the gate I am usually prepared for rude treatment.Sometimes I get lucky and get good customer service.Maybe A320 has something.Good customer service starts at the bossman's office.

The best thing about AWA is that you usually fly a 757 or a 319. On most other airlines, you get stuck on a 727 or 737. I'd much rather fly a newer plane on any airline rather than a old plane on an airline with great service.

I have flown AWA three times and it's been decent. The flights were red-eyes, so I can't truly comment on what their meal service was like, but I have experienced courteous treatment from their employees and the flights were on time. I agree with AWA320 that they can be a great airline, but a major change at the top has to happen first. Hopefully there's a Bethune in their future!
