Greetings fellow A.nutters,

I'm on a rather lightly loaded D-AIGF, LH's A340-311 "Gottingen" from DFW to FRA. I'll be catching LH 754 to BLR.

I have a window seat (31A) with EVERY other seat in my row empty!!!!! There are several empty seats in my section.

I timed the Ground roll at DFW off Rwy 18L at 56 seconds using a little over 9000' based on the distance markers. The initial climb rate was pretty low, which is not particularly surprising for an A340, but I expected a shorter ground roll for a decidedly lighter aircraft. Of course the DFW area is a freaking furnace these days, so that definitely accounts for one of the 4 H's!

We are currently at FL330 483 KTS just north of Louisville, KY

Will keep you posted.

Cheers

You're probably right!!! That's why I tried to pad it up with some geeky ground roll / climb rate stuff in which case it shoule perhaps belong to the Tech/ops section!!!

I've had 2 Warsteiners already - what do I know?!  Smile

Enjoy the Connexion service while it last.

As long expected Boeing finally pulled the plug on the huge loss making service last week. The satellite service is planned to be turned of come the end of the year.

Keep drinking! I would say you have great taste in beer. Great to have 3 seats all to yourself - quite a luxury these days! By the way, Warsteiner goes great with a really good Schnitzel. A local German restaurant here in Vancouver BC serves up a really good Wiener Schnitzel and I always have the Warsteiner to accompany it. Doubt that is wha your dinner will be. Let us know what they are serving. Years since I was on LH, but they did always have great service.
Cheers & enjoy the rest of your flight.

And welcome to BLR airport at night - it's a riot all right - trying to get your bags off the miniscule belt! And the taxis and the touts just outside the airport - hope there's someone to pick you up, or you'd be better off taking a pre-paid taxi from inside the terminal building.

I am not familiar with the T/O performance on the Airbus.... I'm used to the Boeing family of jets and the step child... (Mad dog... MD80)

Keep in mind while you may have had a light pax load you may have been bulked out in cargo down below.

Also keep in mind that most airlines (if not all) do "Reduced Power" takeoffs to save wear and tear on the engines and for noise abatement. Meaning they only use a percentage of available power calculated on the conditions. WX/Runway length/ obstacles/GTOW etc.

Just my 2cents

Greetings from FRA ...

Sorry I couldn't respond to your messages earlier .. my laptop battery ran out of steam ... c'est la vie, as we dont say in Bangalore (or Dallas for that matter)

So far, I've seen Etihad (looked like a 762 - was too far away), SQ 744, United 744 and 763, AC (fin only, guessing 343), OZ (fin only), ET (752), BA (guessing A320), Malaysia (fin only, guessing 772) ... in addition to countless LH 343s and 744s

Hmm ... sad news. I hope something else fills the void - Wonder if T-mobile has something in mind - any idea?

Thank you for the compliment!! My "great taste" was rendered somewhat superfluous by the fact that Warsteiner was the only German beer they had on board, but it is indeed very good. The meal was a choice of chicken or pasta. I loved the chicken - tender dark meat in a savoury sauce.

Hopefully, LH, BA and AF wont all arrive within minutes of each other! The matriarch will be there to pick me up, despite my pleading to the contrary.

Points very well taken. Also, the A34x is known for its lower climb-out performance in comparison to its Boeing peers in the same weight category - the 772 and the 772LR. The thrust-to-weight ratio is about 25% lower in the 34x. And like I said, it was about 105 F at Dallas yesterday afternoon, which couldn't have helped one bit!!

Unless the flight to BLR has WiFi, this A.nutteris signing out.

best regards

Oh no, that's even worse, since the chaos inside the terminal is nothing compared to the chaos outside. Overflowing parking lot, huge crowds of people & mosquitoes etc, she's going to be in misery. But I assume she's done this before so is aware of the risks a trip to the airport entails  Smile

No chance of BA getting there at that time - they get in after about 4 hours. You might have to contend with TG 325 - but that's slated to get in about 30 minutes before your LH flight. AF generally gets the shorter end of the stick, since it normally lands about 15 minutes after LH does, so you need to pray that the reverse does not happen today Big grin
