I'm glad you want to fly on one of our newest 800's...ship 501 was out here at PHX the other night. I did a service check on it, but to be honest, it's not any different that the others. Only the first to seats of the plane are now 1 A,B intead of 2 A,B(maybe this is what you were after or wanting??) as they took out the closet that is there on the older ships. But there is still a smaller closet-ette, just as you walk in on the right. Sharp bird and with a fresh new smell but like I said, you won't really see any difference than lets say ships 299 or 298? I was hoping you would have got it on your flight though. But ship 254 will treat you just fine..

Have a great flight!
Cheers,
amazonphil

I was actually hoping to see the 1A/B config, tired of always having to sit in E/F of row 1 when able to get row 1.....seen all that scenery already on the IAH-SFO trp but very happy to enjoy the wonderful ride that 254 will give. Okay so I am spoiled and always want the newest ships!  Smile Thanks a bunch

What about the AVOD? I thought that it was supposed to be installed on 501 when it was delivered.

The AVOD system wasn't ready yet.. certifacation I think. If it's not on 502, then it should be ready for 503 ..  crossfingers

This is what I suspected with 501 but wasn't sure. I pretty sure that 502 and up will have them and 501 will eventually get it as well.

IAHflyer, why didn't you book seats 2 A,B for the flights since you've seen all the scenry on the right side of the plane?? Maybe those were already booked??

2B is always blocked for at the airport check-in.....so no sense it hoping to get it and find someone else who was on a connecting flight checked in first and stole it!  Sad So we just enjoy the view from the southside of the E/F side on the way home.

I just taxied 502 to the gate for it's first revenue flight this morning.

AVOD was not installed. We installed the older entertainment system. I don't know if it will be ready for 503.

Do these birds have screens in the seatbacks that are blank awaiting AVOD, or are they just normal Y seats? Is the AVOD going to be in the F cabin only?

What about inseat power. Do 501 and 502 have that, or will that only come with the AVOD install?

I pretty sure ship 501 does not have the screens installed. We had the plane out here in PHX the other night and I walked through the cabin and although I wasn't looking for them, didn't notice anything in the seat backs. I would have noticed as it would have caught my eye with something new like that. A person gets to know the planes pretty well after while and unless something is glaringly different..AVOD screens, we don't notice. As for 502, haven't had the chance to see the plane in person yet.

No to both questions, we have yet to even see any paper work on either systems. When I asked our local engineer about when we will start installing both in-seat power and AVOD all he new was that Panasonic is going over the final stages of getting the E.A. approved by the FAA. Nobody has a clue when that will be done.

Sorry that's the best I can do.
