Could someone please confirm with me if they are knocking down both Terminal 1 & Terminal 2? In earlier publications and maps on websites like BAA, it states that they are only going to knock down Terminal 2 and the Queens Building. Now they are saying that both Terminals are being knocked down. Anyone know what is going on??
On a slightly different note, do you think they will ever do a similar project and replace Terminal 3 with a Heathrow West? Although it has gone under lots of major refurbishments, it still really is a dump!

My understanding is that T2 (and the adjacent Queen's Building) will be knocked down sometime after T5 is opened come what may. My understanding is also that T2 will also be knocked down but only if planning approval is forthcoming for Heathrow East.

Sorry. I am obviously having problems in getting any number larger than 1 right. What I meant to say was:

In that diagram, it looks like there is a big gap in the plan of Heathrow East at the location of the current T1 check-in area. So, T2 and the Queen's building is where Heathrow East will be, but I don't think they are certain about the fate of T1.

I noticed that gat too Kaitak.
It looks fairly obvious from the picture that the ultimate plan will be to pull down T1 as well once HE is operational as it would fill that space nicely.
It also wouldn't suprise me if another remote pier was built at the eatern end of the airfield where those 9 off pier stands are in the pic. The whole of BEAline base is due to be demolished at some stage in the future, and that would allow another pier to be built looking at the space available in the pic, although just roughly mesuring the size, they could probably get another one in as it is.
Also if you look at the very top of the map, you can see how they have conveniently left 2 fields that have not been built on either side of the Aurora hotel that also conveniently line up with the 2 taxiways leading off the northern side of the runway - Those fields lead to the area where the proposed 3rd runway will be built. All it will take to connect them is some minor re-structuring of the Northern Perimiter road and the A4 and the loss of a few car parks. There are very few buildings in the way that would need to be demolished. Co-incidence ???.

My understanding is that T2 will be knocked down and rebuilt prior to the 2012 Olympics.
The Star Carriers who will have moved to T1 will then move to the new T2 and then T1 will be knocked down.
Then again with BAA under new ownership, anything is now possible.

EVERY THING, Heathrow East, T5, T1, renovation of T3 and T4 is supposed to be finished before 2012. Thats the whole point.

Seems a bit optimistic to me that T5 is not due to open until 2008, and that will have taken nearly 6 years to build, yet they will knock down T2 and re-build Heathrow East in 4 years.....but I guess they did have a huge amount of prior ground work to do on the sewage works prior to construction starting so it may be possible. I don't see the T1 part being complete by then though.

In the end will there be a brand new T1 and a brand new T2 or just a brand new T2?
