Yes, I know what you're thinking  Wink
No LS won't be be flying to Carlisle anytime soon.
However, the title is there for a reason.

Today, I noticed quite a lot of Jet2 billboards for flights from NCL and MAN up in Carlisle and I was wondering why the likes of easyJet and Ryanair never advertise their flights from NCL in Carlisle, and even in Newcastle itself, where you haveto actually enter the airport building before you see an EZY or FR advert.

So why do the likes of easyJet and Ryanair have such piss-poor advertising for flights out of NCL than Jet2 do?
You see Jet2 adverts on buses, taxis and now billboards in Carlisle. It's the same in Newcastle.

Yet for easyJet and Ryanair, there advertising is virtually non-existant. Are EZY and FR thinking that there name on it's own will attract people, or would they rather see their flights from NCL doing piss poor?

It seems to me that FR and EZY can take a leaf out of Jet2, and start advertising outside of airports.

Very true!At least FR advertise quite well in Glasgow/west central Scotland to advertise their PIK destinations, but U2 really do need a kick up the backside when it comes to promoting their flights. You would think that they don't want to succeed sometimes(or that everyone should know about them already).Anyway, they both could do better, and hopefully GSM(GLOBESPAN) will show them how it's done, both in advertising and getting destinations from local airports(direct) to where people want to go,and at a good price too!
Can anyone tell me why U2 are so lax at GLA,when it all started there for them?Apart from the vastly inflated landing fees BAA impose at GLA,U2 seem to not care one way or the other. If GSM can make it work, why can't U2?

it would be rude not to!

Do you think Jet2 will continue advertising in backwaters such as Carlisle when it has suffcient brand recognition? Jet2 will not yet be in many Cumbrians' bookmarks when they look to book their hols.

FWIW, U2 and FR advertise their LPL hubs quite heavily in and around Manchester.

Perhaps, but I've NEVER actually seen an easyJet or Ryanair advert in Carlisle.
I wouldn't call it a backwater as such either, as the majority of people around the Carlisle area, and SW Scotland east of Dumfries, use Newcastle or Manchester for their flights.
If I wasn't into aviation, I wouldn' have the foggiest that EZY or FR flew from NCL.

Jet2 also advertise on the side of the Fowler/Welch trucks that form part of the Channel Express group, so it isn't uncommon to see them driving around all parts of the country. I have seen loads of them on the M25, even seen them down near Southampton.

As the old saying goes, "it pays to advertise" !!.

So flying into LHR the best way continues to be Virgin Train or flying into Newcastle for Carlisle?

Either way is pretty easy, although it's probably quicker taking the train from Euston.

I saw ARJ G-FLTC in Jet2 c/s at MAN in June.

Carlisle has a runway that could easily accomodate an ARJ, (6,026 compared to 3,934 at LCY).

Jet2 is now a huge name around where I live. Anyone flighs out of Leeds, its most likely threy try to go fo LS. I've never flown them yet but people who have say desppite the low fare business plan, the service on board is always with a smiule and apparently the f/a s are very friendly. Some are now calling them a new breed of LCC. A nice and friendly no frills carrier.

I'm a big fan of LS but I must point out that despite their popularity throughout Yorkshire, Billboards advertising are shooting up all over. There is one at the end of my lane and several others in the town of Keighley which is some twenty miles from LBA.

I have seen plenty of easyJet advertising in Newcastle and Sunderland, but not much of Ryanair though. I think easyJet advertised more before they even started flights from NCL.

Yeah, strange. BA advertised here in Newcastle for Manchester, from London!! I agree with FR - they have a very poor advertising here in NCL - but then again, they have only a few routes, only one of which is daily. Jet2, have a much broader program, and have started a really big campain here for the Tenerife and Chambery in particular.
