JetBlue To HOU On 9/7 - 7am Flight Or RON?

With JetBlue starting service to HOU on 9/7, I am wondering how the first day will play out. Will a plane be positioned to HOU on 9/6 and RON, or will there be some early flight on 9/7?

Thanks!

Most likely, a ferry coming in the night before so they'll have an originator.

Where it'd come in from is anyone's guess...

Dude, I can't tell you how excited I am about this inaugural flight. Its a shame school had to start... but anyways....

On the first day, JetBlue will not have its 7AM flight from HOU to JFK. Instead, JetBlue will operate JFK-HOU, and the first HOU departure will be approximately at 12:20PM on the first day.

Good luck JetBlue!

Yea when they start new cities that has a plane RON there they don't have the first departure that day. The only time I can remember they had to ferry flights over to start a city off was when EWR started up and they needed 4 planes there one morning before any arrivals. Probably the same occured in places like BOS but most cities jsut don't have the first departure.

the same went for when we started our ATL ops too. we had ferried a plane (and crew) in from JFK the night before to work the first flight from ATL-LGB the next day back in May '03.

Thanks for the replies! So far, we have 2 for and 2 against. I am thinking there won't be a 7am flight. Any other takers?

$69 each way a week in advance?! I guess the bookings still haven't improved in spite of all the fare sales they've been running.

I'm guessing so too. HOU is going to be a hard market to get into - especially since it's the slow season. Had it been launched back in June or something, the fares would have been higher and demand greater.

I'm planning a trip there in April. I doubt I'll be able to find these sale fares around that time, but I'll still fly B6 since HOU is much more convenient to Galveston (where I'm headed to) than IAH.

I agree. Despite of the fare sales, advanced bookings are still weak. IMHO, HOU will be a difficult market to stimulate.

Isn't that fare part of the promotion where they tie the fare to the cost of a barrel of crude oil?

B6 is doing a lot of radio and newspaper advertising in Houston almost every day right now. The radio commercials are kind of funny. In one of them some guy thinks the "free direct TV for every passenger" means they get to take a free TV home after the flight. The other one I heard was a guy asking a res agent if the "extra leg room" could be used for something else since he doesn’t have an extra leg.

That promotion ended last week. Immediately after it ended the fare went to $74, then $79, and then $69. I think B6 is playing around with the numbers to see which one brings in the most revenue.

Very well. It should drop off a bit though for the slower fall season though.

That promotion supposedly was to end August 21, though they've continued to offer $69 fares from JFK and $79 fares in connecting markets. ATA and Continental are both matching the fares to LGA & JFK (EWR is slightly more on CO), and that's certainly making life more difficult for B6. It doesn't help that TZ probably has even lower CASM than B6 and access to traffic flows from WN, while CO has an excellent product, reasonable costs, and strong loyalty in both Houston and New York.

Wow, you're right. I hope they keep this up for a few weeks -- I need to do a mileage run sometime this year, and this is a pretty good deal. Of course, the downside is that now I'm starting to feel like I overpaid for the $99 O/W IAH-JFK ticket I picked up a week or two ago. I never thought I'd complain about a ticket into New York priced that competitively, but here I am.

Well--seeing as Im in dental school in Nashville I think I'll take Jetblue back home to HOU to see what they are talkin' bout--even though it is out of the way via JFK.

Hey guys! HOU is shaping up really well. Without going into detail, loads are about what I expected so far for a Sept start date. Let's just say B6 did the right thing by putting the 320 in there. I think come Holiday time you'll see some pretty full loads.

We're at gate 55, which is part of the C concourse. However in about one years time we'll be moving to the new concourse, being constructed at this time, right next to where WN's concourse is now. I've been going to WN's concourse for lunch every day (MUCH better food). Unfortunately, our concourse is lacking some really great food. But, there is a bar right next to 55. Not so sure how that will play out with customers.

Everyone at Hobby has been absolutely wonderful to B6. We're treated like royalty there. It's awesome! From the airport administration to the other airlines there, hands down the friendliest airport I have ever been at.

Hopefully ya'll will come by and see us in action. Our customer service crew is AMAZING! A lot of fresh faces with drive and ambition. Can't say enough about them!

Yeehaw!

Love da' Blue!

That's great to hear, AUSBlue. I've been to Houston just once and I have to say that the people there are the friendliest I have ever encountered. Hopefully B6 will be able to make the station work out.

Empty? The inaugural is better than I had hoped but the rest of the week doesn't look great.

Great news! I come to HOU about 3 times a year - but usually my flights are all on WN. I live inbetween Houston and Austin so I get a good variety of airports to choose from. I am pretty sure I will be on a HOU-JFK flight this December. Too bad school started, it would have been great to have been on the inaugural flight. Well, good luck JetBlue!

Today I saw an advertisement for flights to HOU. It was on Yahoo! News and advertised the new destination in a message that went, "Dear Houston, We're arriving Texas-style. Fly non-stop to NYC from Hobby starting September 7," or something very similar. I'm guessing I saw the advertisement since I live on Long Island, and I'm also assuming that the same advertisement is being shown in the Houston area as well.

As a side note, within the last two days I've heard two JetBlue advertisement over the radio (WFAN 660). Both were phone calls into 1-800-JETBLUE, one asking about First Class, and the other asking about the extra legroom. Both were pretty funny to say the least. One advertised new service to Columbus and the other "up to 6 flights" to Washington.

It's nice to see JetBlue step up their advertising efforts.

Yeah, there is a TV and a Radio Commercial playing here in the Houston area. I've only seen it on channel 13 ABC, but I'm sure its on NBC as well.
