Title says it all. AirTran will launch Fort Lauderdale-Newport News/Williamsburg this summer. No doubt partly because Delta has ended all Fort Lauderdale-Virgina service, leaving Norfolk and Richmond with only MIA flights:

Great to see more and more expansion at PHF. I guess they are expecting traffic levels to keep increasing, as a new ATC tower and a parking garage (which they've needed for a long time) are also under construction here.


All nonstop flights are direct, but not all direct flights are nonstop!

How do PHF and RIC coexist for FL? Does one siphon traffic from the other? Sounds like FLL is really busy for FL. I don't know how they handle so many flights with only 2 gates.

I wk for Airtran as a flight attendant and I can tell that FLL is one of our busiest stations. Flights are always full out of there.

Hopefully they can make this work since Delta Connection failed. Air Tran has started and then quickly stopped several similar type routes from FLL in recent years.

You bet. Milwaukee, Washington/National, Rochester, Dayton (never started), Flint, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Akron/Canton.

Yes, but it has been discontinued. Not operating this winter, it was taken out of GDS a few weeks ago.

Good market for jetBlue E-Jets.

In an unrelated yet not unrelated note. I do a lot of travel to FLL and the MIA area . . . well I used to always fly into MIA then I had a last minute trip come up where FLL was cheaper. After that flight I must say I will never fly into MIA again. FLL was so much nicer all the way around, from parking, to staff, to appearance. So I can see why FL does well out of there, DL too for that matter.
