I just want to congratulate all the DL employees on this board and state that I have noticed a significant improvement in the service that you are providing. It is a testiment that the Delta culture is alive and strong, despite the struggles that you have all endured.
To give you an example of this service, I have an upcoming trip between CVG and BOS. I am a Gold Elite member, and have been for a number of years. When I made the reservation a month ago, I had requested to be put on the upgrade list. However, for some reason when I checked my reservation today, my upgrade showed as "Contact Delta." When I called the special members number, the Delta representative activated my upgrade on the waitlist and apologized that it was not activated when I made the reservation. The thing that shocked me was they offered me a free rental car to compensate for the mistake. I was shocked. I wasn't upset at all that the upgrade wasn't activated, and declined the offer. But it did make me notice that Delta is going above to make their customer's happy, even it was for something that I am not guarenteed, an upgrade. So Kudos to Delta.

I had a chance to fly DL 1st class on a 752 from SLC-SEA 3 weeks ago for the first time managing to get it via a $75 upgrade, and was quite impressed with how the F/A took care of all 24 PAX during that short 2 hour flight.

Indeed. My last flight with DL was ATL-LAX about 2 years ago. Well last weekend I accompanied my wife flew DL SAN-ATL-TRI. I went along for the SAN-ATL leg for no reason other than I'd never flown out of SAN before and we landed unbelievably cheap tickets on priceline.
Anyway, I was very impressed with DL's service. A full plane, but still managed to accomodate my request for a bulkhead window seat, clean, departed on time, very friendly, very helpful (I'm still hobbling a bit from my dislocated knee and two seperate F/As offered to help me with my small carry-on). The flight back was maybe 70% full, and I got an entire middle row to myself (ahh, lie down and sleep). Left ATL on time (unheard for ATL departures in my experience), same friendly service, same helpful attitude.
Really, Delta is becoming something of a pheonix from the flames if you ask me.
