When i left GIG Monday two weeks ago on AA905 I wasn't able to see the Varig"parking lot" there but when I returned to MIA I noticed two ex Varig aircrafts sitting there which I believe must have been the 757,s. Anybody who knows what aircrafts are still at GIG and any news about their future?

Hello Don,
As for the 757's you mentioned,PP-VTQ is about ready to be delivered to AirUnion,VTR/S/T are due to be delivered sometime after October.
The 777's area as follows......
PP-VRA was deregistered 10 Aug'06 and is on order for Aero Mexico this month. It was supposed to leave GIG by the end of August.
PP-VRC was deregistered 30 Aug'06 and ferried from GIG to MZJ on 21 July'06.It has since be re-registered N702BA.
PP-VRD was deregistered 30 Aug'06 and reportedly is still at GIG as of August 30th.This a/c has also been re-registered N703BA.
PP-VRB reportedly is still at GIG since it was wfu 26 April'06.According to the Brazilian aircraft register, the airworthiness certificate was also suspended on that date.
PP-VRF......basically the same info as PP-VRB above.
PP-VRI was reported to be wfu at LPA 19 April'06,de-registered and airworthiness certificate suspended on that date, again according to the Brazilian aircraft register.
PP-VRJ was wfu GIG on 07 July'06,the same day it performed it's last revenue flight.
Sorry I don't have any more info on the rest of the fleet(767's etc),as the above info was gleaned from several sources over the past months.

Already leave GIG, now at Asia doing Check C and new AM livery. AM will use it on their Mexico-Brazil service next month.

Was returned to GIG on may using one PP-VRF engine. Parked and waiting for a new destination.
767: VOE and VOI - Parked at GIG and still waiting for a new destination. Rumors that Varig is under negotiations to keep using these birds.
757: All at MIA
73G: All at SJO, one of them will be back this month as Gol Aircraft
738 and 734: I have to check
733: Most of them seems to be bought (yes, bought) by Varig new owner. Some are under negotiations with WebJet, a new brazilian airline and also to BRA.
M11: The GE powered fleet (owned by Boeing) are still on ground at GIG waiting new destination (5 frames). Some birds needs 1 or 2 engines.

Some recent press releases have announced that AM will be finally starting the flight to Japan by Oct/Nov, so if that is true, this T7 will be used to Asia, also.

According to airfleets.net, PP-VRA and PP-VRB will join AM's fleet:
I don't know how reliable is this web site, since one can submit updates.

Right! In fact, PP-VRA should be getting here sometime mid October and it will be the one to command this event and to start the MEX-TIJ-NRT route next November 15th, 2006 as it will carry AM's new c/s.

I wouldn't trust this site that much but PP-VRB is HIGHLY probable it will too soon this year be joining AM's fleet. This aircraft could be getting here by mid November and will start revenue service sometime by December 06. As this takes place the 5th and new B777 due for November 2007 is now cancelled.
AM will most probably keep only the next days with 04 B772s and 04 B762/3s.

Aeromexico is brave in getting GE powered 777 while they are available. IF Tokyo is there next "BIG THING", I wish them much success. I hope AM doesn't forget Europe though, British Airways, KLM and Lufthansa fly to Mexico City with no Mexican airline flying to those countries.

Right, as per all the information i know, AM is still looking for PP-VRB and ILFC is trying to help them a lot. It's highly probable as Ghost said that it's become part of AM fleet. As soon as i get any further info i will let all yourselves know about.

Felipe,
How many a/c,s are actually flying right now for Varig and have you heard anything about their progress in securing a future fleet. It seems to me like the Varig situation is as uncertain as it was before the Varig Log takeover.

AM is indeed going for PP-VRB. They need urgently these frames and they can't wait any longer. The 5th B777s due for November 07 has been cx, most probably, another new B777 could be taken by 2008, but as for now, it is very important for AM to secure VRB. Any update Felipe?

Yes! Could it be possible to have an update of the whole situation?
How many frames is RG currently flying?

3 M11 and 14 733 IIRC. Tomorrow i will fly one of the M11 from GIG and could obtain more info.
There are rumors about more 733 back to the fleet during the next 10 days (they will announce also more domestic flights) also they are talking to get back 2 767-300ER.
They need the CHETA (Brazilian Airline certification) and as per ANAC comments, the document will be issued next week.

I will talk to RG staff tomorrow and probably they can give me more info. I'm also waiting for a GE/Celma (their maintenance company in Rio) info concerning to the engine.

Is the ex-VARIG 777 (sans engines) still sitting by the AA hangars at JFK? When I was there back in July, it was still sitting there going nowhere ...
