Embraer yesterday presented EMB-190 to Varig board of directors and also to some RG employees at SDU Airport in Rio.

The most interesting is the comment that AC has released 4 Embraer 190 slots in favor of Varig that should receive these planes this year to run the shuttle service Rio-São Paulo, with business class seats back! Also, all seats will keep PTV !

It could be a very smart return to the higher yield domestic market in Brazil, the shuttle service Rio-Sao Paulo.

Thanks for two of my friends:

"Raining night at Rio, temperature around 16C (48F). A little crowd formed around the AIS room at SDU Airport, and after all passengers have been called, they were taken to PP-XMB (serial 190002), one of the first Embraer 190 made and nowadays configured with 8C 86Y."

Some pictures:

So the deal is still pending? I certainly hope we see more than 4, and more destinations.

I dont know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone

This is what RG needs on the Rio-SP shuttle. A differentiated product. It is a smart move - they can run high frequency, lower cost, better experience flights with the E190. I hope it happens.

Dude, if it were 48F at SDU in Rio it would be a national emmergency. 16C is around 60F. Cold for Rio standards, but a nice night here in New England  Smile

Thanks for all the accurate info and the hot rummors.

Very impressive, and RG by focusing on the high-yield pax will certainly explore a very interesting niche. Note that TAM removed all business class from domestic routes.

Rgs,

Ops, my mistake! In fact 48F was the temperature yesterday here in Sao Paulo. A little confusion (i forget about the X Far - 32 / 2 = X celsius). Thanks for the correction Baron.

Right, and just a little addition, Embraer PTV keeps a USB port and will allow people to download their own music and listen during the flight! Info i got is that seats are very comfortable (leather in the PP-XMB) and probably this is the configuration Varig will use.

Yes, on final arrangements and also they requested long term finance from BNDES (Brazilian Long Term Finance Bank). I hope to see more than 4 too and i could say 20 to 30 planes. Important to say that Varig will upgrade the standards of comfort and could put TAM service in check with C Class, PTV in all seats and by far the most "emotive" product, an E-Jet made in Brazil. Probably they will take advantage of this on their marketing "Fly the only one with Brazilian Jets."

Me too, i will get back to GIG tomorrow! But on the 29th probably will take a very nice weather due to the end of the winter. Let me know as probably i will be working at Rio waiting for my reallocation to New York.

I don't see the picture? whats the pictures of? Anyways sounds a good news for Varig and I do hope they do well. It's nice to see Varig will get to have PTVs that AC requested.

Me and my son will arrive on the 29th with AA995/AA951 to GIG at 10:55AM. Let me know if you will be at GIG and we can meet. I will then go to terminal 2 for the Hertz car rental.

The link to the pictures seems to be OK, but if you are facing problems let me know as i'm authorized by the photographer to relay a copy.
They are the interior of Emb-190 PP-XMB (seats, corridor and PTV)
