On tuesday (I think), witnesses told me a Q300 had a double engine fire upon landing at PMR. The aircraft is currently in the Fieldair hangar, engineless.

Does anyone know what actually happened to it?

Just to add, is this the first time this has happened to the Q300 in NZ?

Double engine fire ah?? LMAO

Really was nothing that interesting. Won't go into details (other NZ staff may choose to). No danger to aircraft or the public, lets just say someone did something a little embarassing.

Haven't heard anything about it at all... but a wild guess might be an overspeed issue... hmmm embarassing... hard to know... hmmm I'm curious now dammit!... will have to ring one of my pilot friends at Air Nelson..  Wink

I personally thought that the Q300 seemed like a great airplane! but thats just a passangers opinion.

I was once flying ROT-AKL and we tried to take off twice but with no luck so they had to get some parts over and fix it and about 4 or so hours later they boarded us again. I was flying alone and was only about 10 so my mum was freaking out, and I was like "its alright" I thought it was all very exciting. then when they fired up the engine again there was a spurt of flame that came out of the engine, well that put a damper on my smile  Wink yet I am still here so nothing happened and in the end we landed just fine in AKL, hahaha about 3 hours later I threw up on my Aunts white carpets... in a house that they were renting while between houses OPPPS.  Sad well I think I ate something wrong and then all of the bumps in the air.

AirNZ doesn't have any info up that I can find about it  Sad

Not sure if you were talking in general or about the Q300... NZ has only had Q300's for a year now... you would have been on either a Saab 340, B1900D, or a bandit

Seems the pilots of ZK-NEF over primed both engines when they were still hot.

Cl's were placed back at feather after shutdown, enough internal rotation to give fuel flow and ignition but with no air flow, i heard the props could not be rotated after second shutdown

Can't rotate the props after screwing something up? Unless they overtorqued the engines severely and damaged the gearboxes beyond comprehension, that just doesn't hold water.

Also, bringing the condition levers back into start / feather wouldn't hurt much either since the ignition won't start working unless the start button is depressed, and then it will only turn the engine that's been selected. There's no way to get both engines spinning at the same time in a Dash (at least from the cockpit).

yes I remember the Crash 8. Didn't realise Ansett had them flying AKL-ROT tho...
The Q300 may look the same and share much of the parts but it is almost a completely differant animal to the Dash8.

Yep, thats the one. Some of my sources had different storys. Aparently both engines ignited causing both engines to catch fire internally. Engines aparently had to be replaced. Didn't see the Aircraft today when I was at PM, so might have left. Noticed it was outside yesterday with engines back on.

Vincent Aviation now flys one of them (I think only 1). Still has the original seating and covers I understand.
