It looks even better now that there's a picture of it in action. Really glad they did an HP old livery heritage theme jet.

I love it...I really hope they do another US Air livery...like the silver/maroon or the late 80's version after they merged operations with Piedmont. They would look really sweet.

If anyone wants to snap a picture of this new bird, it is currently in flight to SEA as flt. 79. Here is its flight path today:

Which US livery are you actually referring to?
The silver/maroon livery was their first livery which rolled out in 1979 (basically a modified version of the 1975 AL livery).
Either way, since the aircraft being used to display all the Heritage liveries are A319s; usage of a bare/polished metal livery is not likely... unless they opt for either white, grey, or silver en lieu of the bare metal.

Kind of like what Aeroflot did. Which reminds me, what happened to the other thread on this plane? Did it get deleted?

Yeppers that's them...I realize the airbus doesn't do bare metal that well...it would be cool even if they used a different plane like a 757 or even a 737 we plan on keeping for a while.

The silver/maroon livery was their first livery which rolled out in 1979 (basically a modified version of the 1975 AL livery).
The post-PI merger livery (merger hybrids excluded) rolled out in 1989 uses blue and red on bare metal.

IMO, the best 'USAir' retro livery would be the one that was introduced just after the Allegheny name change. It's a white/red/maroon scheme which should be easily doable on an A319. It also reflects the timeframe of some of USAir's better years prior to the Piedmont and PSA mergers.

Yes that would work great...you should submit it to the merger email address as a suggestion! Since they have to repaint the planes anyhow..might as well do something fun eh?

Actually, the livery shown in your post is a hybrid-livery. Since AL's final livery debuted 4 years previously, many planes were still freshly painted in the '75 scheme.
Once the AL-US name change became official (in late Sept. 1979); every new/used plane that entered the fleet from then on was given the full bare-metal livery.
Even in 1978 (unless the year is a typo on this photo), one year prior to the name change; a few of AL's planes still had the older wedge livery. Those planes were probably the first ones to receive the bare-metal livery.

Quoting Captaink (Reply 6): Hey that looks really great. I think they can get rid of the new HP colors/US Airways hybrid.
I hope they don't. It might not be a rarity right now, but on the Airbuses, the green/turq HP colors are rapidly disappearing, and a few years down the road, planespotters will be standing out at the end of Runway 8 hoping to catch a glimpse of a rare America West bird arriving in a sea of new-colors US Airways jets. The more old-school reminders of history out there, the better.
USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.

I would expect to see some 737-300's in bare metal colors. They require a Maintenance "LapSeam" check every year that would require them to strip the paint off and then patch it on several Lap seams. That being said, I would suspect you will see both UsAir paints as well to match the 2 HP paints. I also stated that you might get to see Mohawk and Empire.
As aside thought, Love to see them paint the sole remaining B767-200 in the Silver Piedmont Colors.

As a side thought, I would love to see the sole remaining Dark USAirways B767-200 repainted as a Silver "Piedmont" 767
