After how many years do airlines replace them? Or shall I say, change the metal tubes used to inflate the jackets?

They never replace them or change anything in them.

All lifevests are checked at least every five years.

I think the shelf life is 5 years on a life jacket, but anyways, there is a shelf life. When they are within 3 months of their expiration, they are replaced. They get sent a certified repair station. They reinspect and recertify them.
