Hello

For the first time in about 12 years, American Airlines is flying 757s into Detroit!

In the current schedule, AA operates two daily 757s from DTW to Chicago O’Hare, in addtion to four other scheduled flights

7:30AM AA 1048 757
6:35PM AA 1677 757

For us DTW spotters, this is a welcome change from the humdrum MD80s!

AWESOME!!!

Wow..am I happy to hear this. It's been a long time, probably at least 10 years since we've had an AA 757 here.

I remember in the '90's, we had the 767-200 and well as the -300 from AA; both to ORD and to DFW. Those were the days.

Maybe we'll get UA 767 back  Smile

Saw this yesterday ... I guess they need some extra lift out of DTW to compensate for the CRJ700s also doing DTW-ORD. Incidentally, this may be the only route in the entire domestic AA system (non-Caribbean) that goes both mainline 757s and Eagle flights.

Nope, IAD-MIA currently has both mainline and AA Eagle flights.

A 738 in the morning, and a CRJ-700 that departs around 2:30 pm.

That would be nice! But CLE is a heavy MTX base for eagle's crj's.

My uncle told me alot over dinner tonight, and one thing was a line check for some guy ORD-DTW on the 752. Like an hour flight if that.

Glad to see them back there. We get them back in AUS soon too.

Cheers.

A bit more info about a few AA 757 frames. The ones they got from TW, that were previously rumored and reported in AA ops meetings to be retrofitted with ETOPS and inflatable rafts for west coast ops to Hawaii...they are dead in the water and all ex TW frames will be returned to leasers in 2007 and 2008, at lease end.  Sad

He was saying 757s and Eagle. It's not uncommon to have a mix of 737/Eagle and MD-80/Eagle, but a 757/Eagle? First I've heard of this mix.

Acutaly its a 738 and a EMB-140.. MIA is not ops qualified for eagle's CRJ700... long and short, no CR7's goto MIA unless its a diversion.

True, but it has been scaled back over the past year... they did trim 2 of their ron's from Chicago..

I was hoping to be able to get a shot of the 757-200 when I fly WN into DTW on Oct 6th but as my luck would have it my flight gets in at 10 and the AA flight gets in around 1015, hopefully I wont have to check any bags and I can stick around to see this baby come in. Almost booked it with the routing being BNA-ORD-DTW, but I needed the latest Departure out of BNA and WN provided it. Part of me wishes i wouldve booked it on AA.

Is it bad that I get excited to see even a CRJ overfly? Man, what this place does to you

This is great news. DTW was one of the first cities that American served with the 757 after deliveries began in 1989. In fact, my first ever 757 flight was on American from ORD-DTW in December 1989. I miss the days of the 767 and DC10 being on that route as well.

You suppose MIA-CLE might come first? There has to be more cruise/SoAm traffic than fits on one little ERJ.

Just a side note, Delta is running an MD-90 flight again to SLC. It replaces the 2 daily shuttle America E-170 flights.

Ah yes, good to see the 757's back on DTW-ORD. That makes up for the fact that they put some CR7's on the route. At least its better than ERJ's.

As for the DL MD-90 to SLC, the flight times stink on that flight. It was much better with the 2x E-170's with the early morning and afternoon departures.

No, MIA will no longer see the MD'S AA has simplified MIA and they will only see the 738.

I would like to see another AA flight to MIA. They just have the one in the morning and one in the late evening time. With all the Cruise Lines in MIA and FLL you think they would put another flight on.

A few years ago, AA was offering 3 daily DTW-MIA flights during peak winter season. Recently it has been only 1 daily (morning) departure. Not sure if the 2nd daily (evening) flight is coming back for this winter. Its a 738 route, but it would be cool to see a 757 on DTW-MIA. At times, there certainly is the demand on the route.

Second daily returns this winter, as always, and the current flight wil be a 757 this winter.

Well here's what I know, I know that with MQ's flat rate charged to AA to ground op one of their flights the 80 would have been profietable based on the revenue numbers they were getting when they dropped it.. Since CLE lost the 80 to MIA AA has removed all the 80's from the MIA base.. now it's just 738s.... if that would make money, I don't know... like I said I only pray to get some mainline back on the dfw cle market... lol

Wow, thats impressive to see, MAH4546.

That is a first for the DTW-MIA route, a 757. In Dec, there will still be 2 757's in DTW - 1 to ORD and 1 to MIA. Not bad.

We are very excited to have the 757s.

Before the 757s were loaded on the final schedule; around the end of June, you wouldn't believe what the DTW-ORD schedule was going to look like: 4 x ER4 and 2 x S80! Let's say everyone was very concerned about this because the two ER4 flights normally went out weight restricted (heavy bags!). Within a week however, we learned that the planners gave us the current mix:

757, S80, S80, CR7, 757, CR7 (in order).
Eff. 12/14: S80, S80, S80, CR7, 757, CR7 (not finalized).

We've been seeing then fill up quite nicely on the busier days, esp. flight 1514 inbound.

The second additional MIA flight will be a midday departure (~12:30p); we are still quite some time away from getting the "final" station report.
