American Orders Six More Boeings.

American Airlines, which is one of Boeing's largest and most important customers, today announced an order for an additional 6 aircrafts: 2 777-200IGW's and 4 737-800's. This brings the number of aircraft on firm order to 108, 35 being ordered this year. That includes 67 737-800's, 21 777's and 20 757's. American has right now 45 737's and 24 777's, when all aircrafts on firm order are delivered, the 737 and 777 fleet will be 112 and 45 aircrafts respectively. This means that in five years from now, American will have a strong fleet of 757's and 737-800's, the combined fleet of these two types will be as large as that of the Super 80 fleet. By then American will start phasing out the Super 80's. No more 767's have been ordered lately.

Well, you miscalculated, 467+6=473 (don't forget the cancellations, the Airbus boys don't), and you can also add another 74 to that, bringing the total to 547 (GECAS order confirmation).

Actually, he was right at 483. You can't compare cancellations until you have numbers from Airbus, which are not publically available. Boeing didn't even publish their cancellations until this year. Therefore, it is 483 vs. 262 (should be updated by the end of the week). The GECAS order was already listed last week as an 'Unidentified' order.

Airlines do not order planes on the basis of national origin....
European airlines purchase large numbers of (US manufactured, with significant international contribution) Boeings (eg British Airways widebody fleet), and US airlines purchase large numbers of Airbus(manufactured primarily in France, Germany, Britain & Spain) planes (eg US Airways).
When will posters to this website get it into their heads that ACCOUNTANTS, working for the airlines, decide which plane to purchase, their decisions being based purely on operating economics and deals available. (Operating economics will depend on routes operated).
Pilots, Flight attendants, aerospace enthusiasts or those supporting their own national aerospace interests do NOT decide.
This should NOT be a Boeing versus Airbus forum, it should spread understanding and appreciation of aerospace issues.

My purpose for including the cancellations was for this forum only. Unfortunately someone who favors Airbus will always point out that there were 10 cancellations. Also, I know of the GECAS order being unidentified last week, BUT, it was not part of the 477 if i'm not mistaken...or was it?

Ba4521, I don't believe Boeing747-400 was being nationalistic in his post, what made you say what you said? I think he was saying Go Boeing, and Go American Airlines...not Go American (made products), but I could be wrong, and he can defend himself...

Yes, indeed it was included in the Sept. 26 update, which brought the numbers (including the GECAS order, plus 1 BBJ, 3 738s for Ryanair, and 1 UFO 777) from 398 to 477.

The order gap between Airbus and Boeing will close in the 4th Quarter. Don't forget that Airbus still has some 200 orders to be finalized with GECAS and ILFC from Farnborough. All in all, a much better year for both than anyone expected (including the blessed analysts).
