I was reading the Skyteam Cargo Alliance story on aeroworld.net today, and it mentioned the alliance had 1,070 aircraft of which 30 were pure freighters. I realize Korean and Air France have substantial dedicated freighter operations, and it got me to wondering if Delta will purchase some pure freighters to "hold up" their end of the alliance. What does anyone think? Any rumors out there?

Originally the 13 L-1011s were to be converted to freighters with new cockpits and engines, similar to that of the MD-10. That idea has been scrapped as of a few months ago and right now everyone is wanting to know the same thing you want to know.
a. Keep the leased MD-11s and convert to cargo
b. Sit around and let AF and KL handle it
or the most likely...........
c. Order the 777F or 747F or Combi to fill the need for both passengers and cargo.

Delta is doing what all North American Airlines are doing except Northwest, which is eliminate dedicated cargo aircraft, and just carry cargo on a regular pax flight. AA stopped using pure freighters years ago, and is still one of the leaders in cargo carrying.
