Delta To SLC...CDG Before LGW?

There are rumours around that Delta are to start a service to Paris CDG from Salt Lake City. Whether or not this is true, I dont know, but surely if there was going to be a transatlantic service from SLC, it would go to LGW? I would have thought the loads would be better on this route (personally).

Or is it just because CDG has the advantage of Air France being a member of SkyTeam?

Bingo. While there probably aren't all that many people going from SLC to either city to justify a nonstop flight, there are far more connecting opportunities over CDG. Gatwick probably would generate more O&D overall but Delta has a better shot at profitability with CDG as they can generate a more premium fare mix by getting connecting itineraries for markets beyond Paris.

CDG might get it first due to the AF/SkyTeam connection as eluded to, but LGW will be hot on its heels everyone is predicting, and perhaps even FRA soon after (if slot controls don't eliminate it).

More SLC-CDG Rumors (by Mason Sep 11 2006 in Civil Aviation)

Bermuda II makes LGW nearly impossible. I think all the frequencies and cities are used up. iIf and when openskies comes about and DL gets into LHR I am sure there will be SLC-LHR. However, until that happens DL and SLC will have to make do with SLC-CDG

I think this one is all about Skyteam. CDG is a better market to feed SLC than LGW given that DL and AF are major partners. I would like to see this route happen, but I think that it needs to be seasonal at least to start. I dont think it will do well in the low season, but in the high season, I think the route has much potential  Silly

If LHR were to open up with an open skies treaty with the U.K. I'm certain it will still be slot controlled and DL will more than likely focus on JFK/LHR flights or ATL/LHR flights long before SLC/LHR flights with what they are likely to get out such a deal. I would even go BOS/LHR before I'd try SLC on such a route. LHR is to London what LGA is to NYC.

What has Bermuda II got to do with it? Surely if Delta can already fly to Atlanta, Cincinnati & New York, it can fly to another US destination?

Gatwick is also controlled under Bermuda II, just not to the same restrictive degree as Heathrow.
