Looks like DL will finally be holding a press conference tomorrow to announce the details of the new longhaul domestic product in ATL at 1 p.m. EDT. There will also be a live video feed available on DL's website. It all sounds very exciting.  praise

Did they keep the extra seat pitch from Song in Y, or is it back to standard?

Any idea what aircraft that was? Reg wise.

I have flown on a few 757s recently repainted but they were all in y class still. I can't wait to have F in those song planes.

It would be nice if they kept the Song B-O-B items. Song had great food and it was reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. Especially for flights to the west coast from ATL/JFK, they need a better food option.

Here's the official press release:

http://biz.yahoo.com/pz/060913/105167.html

Looks like BOB in Y will return in the near future. Also, Y seat pitch will remain the Song-like 33".

18 a/c will rollout a month between Sept and Nov with the new cabins.

What I find strange is that the lavatory signs are not the fluorescent, symbol-based type. On Delta's 757s with the refurbished interior, they removed the incandescent, text-based signs with a fluorescent sign that shows a man and woman with a sink in the center, and shows a red X when occupied. I thought that after Delta converts the ex-Song aircraft to standard configuration, they would have updated the illuminated signs. Also, some of the older ex-Song 757s with the older PSUs should get their PSUs updated IMO.

Delta should try a 33" pitch on all their planes, and make them wider to boot! The last time I flew DL (1999) it was extremely  crowded . My folks recently flew to ATL on one of their new 737-800s and said the seating was the same!

Interesting that the lone 757 that flies to PNS will be equipped with the new long-haul product.

Also, the JFK map lists JFK-PDX as a transcon route that will have the new service. Since DL doesn't currently fly JFK-PDX, it's either a typo or DL will be relaunching the route.

Unless DL starts offering service on par with UA P.S., DL's "premium" transcon produce will still be a red headed step child. Flying the JFK-SFO and JFK-LAX routes, I expect (and will pay) for 50" C and 60" F......38-40" on ex-Song 757 is a joke...no matter how much they try and trick it up with TV on demand. It's all about the service, pitch and seat quality if they want to talk about "premium" product. And to date, DL lags light years behind the other legacy's on premium domestic transcon long haul service.

I take sfo-jfk alot and the flights are always packed. and that was with the old interiors. so they must be doing something right.

That IFE is better than anything out there. Movies, TV, Games, and MP3's. Satellite Radio would be nice, but if you can't find something in that list that suits you, you need help. It is also interesting to note that the 738's will be getting this too. B6 and F9 are getting a run for the money in the entertainment department, while most of us do not choose a flight that way, Delta's new product may sway some people.

Well, SAV, or SMF from SLC couldn't really be expected either.

Will definitely be interesting to see how this turns out.
That said, I'm surprised about the lack of BOS flights. Certainly not a vote of confidence for that market.

Lag's behind who? UA and AA? Yes, they don't have three classes or proper full-first seats.

CO, US, NW? Not at all, in fact, CO and DL are probably at par and years ahead of US and NW.

CO has the food and the consistency of service, DL has the F/As and the new entertainment.

Seems like good times for all four carriers!

Now, my only gripe, I wish in F they had put the PTVs in the armrests!

It sounds great...but I am curious to see how it will compete with United's p.s. service at JFK. It looks like Delta will have to price it lower than United's p.s. service to complete because DL's First will have 38'' pitch while United's has 54'' and 68'' pitch in Business and First, respectively.

In my opinion, it is now time for FL to upgrade its coach service in order to remain competitve with DL out of ATL. I'm not suggesting LiveTV, but maybe offer some sort of BOB product, I'm not sure. Any ideas?

The problem is, if the fares are similar, I'm sure people would rather fly on an aircraft with more comfortable coach seats, more pitch, and on-demand entertainment.

It is something that FL needs to look at....DL seems serious about this turnaround. They are doing what they can now to plant the seeds for a successful future.

It will be interesting to see how all of this will pan out.
