I have not heard much more about this proposed service. Have they actually applied to the relevant authorities?

Do you see QF flying LAX to Toronto?

As previously covered, they've already attempted YYZ-HNL-SYD and bailed...regrettably.

I'm wondering if or why YYZ-YVR-SYD has been considered. Can AC's new 777's do the YVR-SYD leg?

Its hard to soar like an eagle when you're flying with turkeys

Yes the new B777-200LR can do the YVR-SYD. Most definately can do the YYZ-HKG and YYZ-DEL. Once the new B777-200LR its possible AC will bring back YYZ-DEL nonstop as appose to YYZ-ZRH-DEL
