The reason that FNT is an alternative to Detroit and has been successful is the high income growth in the Grand Blanc area and the Detroit's Northern Suburbs. GYY will NEVER be an alternative to Midway or a "3rd Chicago Airport," and Richard Daley's pipe dream of building a 3rd airport at Peotone, is just that. There is good economic growth to the South of Chicago but it is to the Southwest. A 3rd airport near Joliet might make sense, but Gary, Indiana, forget it. It would like Red Bird Aiport in Dallas becoming a desirable airline terminal.

That is Congressman Jessie Jackson III's 'Pipe Dream'. He is the only one talking about Peotone. Daly doesn't want it nor do the people of Peotone want it.
There is plenty of high-income growth in northwest Indiana (outside of Gary) such as Dyer, Schereville, Munster, Lake of Four Seasons, Merriville and even the Miller section of Gary (my old stomping gounds) is seeing an influx of wealth.
The execs at Boeing are quite happy with GYY as well.
