I went down to the airport today to get a shot of the DL MD88 that comes in around 17:00 and the runway was closed ! I tried to find a descent spot to get 28 arrivals but the sun was all wrong. Figures, first descent day in a while to get pics.

Thanks, but I wasn't expecting them to close it. It's been many years since they did. I'm glad that it will be open Friday when VP Cheney comes in with AF2.Hoping for sun!

should reopen early tommorrow morning. GRIA is having to redo the pavement between the runway and taxiway A2 do to deteriorated concrete ( they just did this like 4 years ago and the pavement is shot). 4/22 will be closed again on the mid shifts at some point in october for finish work.

Anyone remember when they paved 4/22 and DL cancelled all thier ATL flights for 2 weeks because they didn't want thier 727's landing on r/w 10/28 ?

Can largerer aircraft (717, 733, 734, A320, MD88) land on a 5500 ft. runway safely
At Midway the Sothwest plane didn't land safely on a 7000 ft. plus runway.

Yes, I remember that. Other carriers flew mainline a/c in and out of ROC just fine.
10/28 is open again? Did they finally plow down the mound of dirt around the tunnel construction? When I was home in August they had a big lighted X up on 28, and a massive dirt pile in the flight path.
In the summer of 1984, the county closed 4/22 to repave it. I think they closed one of the ends first and kept 6,000' of it open, but the whole runway was closed for awhile. I wrote a letter to the D & C arguing that they should pave at night, as had been done at DCA not long before, and keep the runway open all day.

There isn't a 7,000 foot runway to be found at MDW...The longest is 13C/31C at 6522 feet, but it has displaced thresholds at either end, leaving only about 5800 feet for landing and rollout.

AF2 came today, and it was only a plain, white 737 with winglets . It used to be painted in the beautiful blue/white sceme, but no more. I was hoping for the 757.

Too bad,I really wanted to get a pic of a 757 in ROC. I got this one just before I got yelled at by the MCSD ! Ha ha ! I already got my pics and was trying to cross the street when he came along . They didn't even close off traffic on the road like they did when GW came in March.
