Can someone please explain to me why it is that OS has the most odd (!) 777 configuration (see their online seat map).

The front cabin - predictably is J class..
The middle cabin - economy, seating 3+3+3
The rear cabin - economy, seating 3+4+3

Why the difference in economy seating?

Is this not a very unique arrangement compared to other carriers? Is it that they put full fare economy in the middle cabin, and the rest in the boot?

Lauda Air configuration. More oriented to leisure/charter business.

But I thought I smelt a rumour - some months ago - that OS were both reconfiguring their B777 aircraft and adding an additional (new build) aircraft from Boeing. Are you saying this is the old configuration ex Lauda and the new config has yet to appear?

I thought I heard that as well. In fact, I was surprised to see that their 777s are still in the old configuration. I would have thought they'd reconfigure them for their business markets as soon as they integrated their fleets. Maybe someone knowledgable about OS can weigh in here.

The reconfig was in J class only.

Their B772s went from 344 to 307 seats.

2-3-2 J class has been replaced with 2-2-2 shell 'beds' in J class.

Y class config stays the same, minus a few seats..

They ordered a 4th 777 last year, Lauda had an option or an unfilled order for the 4th airplane. Austrian seems to be getting rid of the A340 and will have more 777 capacity when they stop flying to Australia in March. They still have A330-200, 767 and 3(4) 777. My guess is they will put one to JFK, another on the Japanesse routes and may be open up a new route to north america, they do fly to Chicago and Canada.

No. The new shell 'beds' are still 2-3-2 configuration!!

BTW, OS will squeeze these new seats also into the B767 (here in 2-2-2 config)! That is why the new seats are rather narrow.

KA.

Keep smiling - you might be on Radar!
