Avianca flies three different aircraft to New York/JFK:

Bogota-New York daily 767-300ER
Cali-Medellin-New York daily 757-200
Pereira-Barranquilla-New York 3x weekly on MD-83

The 767-300ER stays at JFK from 0530 to 0825.

The 757-200 stays from 0015 to 0730.

The MD-83 stays from 0530 to 0930.

As you can see, it is indeed strange that there was an MD-83 parked in JFK at 7 p.m. Not because of the plane, but because of the time.

The BAQ flight is 5 hours long in an MD-83. The BIZ class is sardine like and they charge almost $2000.00 roundtrip, a ripoff. Then what should we expect from Avianca, I know I have flown them all my life including MD-83's.

The flight originated in Pereira as scheduled, and landed in Barranquilla normally at around 11 pm. But weather deteriorated (indeed there was much damage caused by strong winds) and the flight was postponed till the following morning.

Recently I had some delays on MIA-MDE because the plane was on a check at JFK, so maybe they were doing the same with this MD ?
