A new airline is coming to serve TYS. It will be announced tomorrow. Allegiant Air has long been rumored with service to PIE. I think that is what is expected tomorrow.

I'd keep my eye on Allegiant and their web site.

The TYS area had a question mark on that map in the video we saw last week...I wouldn't be surprised. TYS would be a great market for Allegiant.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be the first brand new station or the company that will be operated from PIE. all other cities to be served from PIE have previous Orlando service, Maybe TYS getting PIE service instead of SFD has something to do with DL already serving the market...
Anyways, Can't wait to see more MD80 series aircraft at this airport
Edit--maybe she was on the way to announce the service to CHA and they only asked i she was on the way to Tennessee??

Allegiant Press Release: September 20, 2006
GET AWAY TO TAMPA BAY!
ALLEGIANT AIR ANNOUNCES NONSTOP FLIGHTS FROM CHATTANOOGA TO TAMPA BAY AREA FOR JUST $49*
(Chattanooga, Tenn.)--- Chattanooga get ready for sunshine! The low-cost airline, Allegiant Air, LLC, today announces new, nonstop jet service to Florida's Tampa Bay area from Chattanooga, Tenn. beginning Dec. 11. The low-fare carrier will celebrate the convenient new service to the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport with sunny introductory fares as low as $49* each way.
With an average 361 days of sunshine each year, the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is considered the most popular vacation destination on Florida's West Coast. The area was named among the top beaches in the United States and is one of a few destinations to have received the "Blue Wave Award" from the Clean Beaches Council. In addition to pristine beaches, visitors are within minutes of shopping, amazing golf courses and award-winning resort and dining experiences.
"We are extremely pleased to expand the Allegiant brand of low-fare, nonstop jet service within the Chattanooga community," Maurice J. Gallagher, Jr., Allegiant Air president and CEO, said. "Area residents are now able to enjoy a convenient low-cost vacation getaway to the sunny beaches of the Tampa Bay area."
The self-proclaimed "Official Airline for Sunshine" will launch the new scheduled service from Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport to St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport with four flights weekly. With service Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, flights will depart Chattanooga at 2:35 p.m. arriving in Tampa Bay at 4:05 p.m. Flights leaving Tampa Bay will depart at 12:30 p.m. arriving in Chattanooga at 2 p.m. (all flight times are local.)
"Low-cost carrier Allegiant Air is making a great investment in our city and we thank them for their commitment to local air service," said Mike Landguth, President and CEO of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority. "Local travelers will benefit even further from the competition that comes with the introduction of the 10th nonstop destination from Chattanooga."
The airline commented that market research and input from local community leaders indicate the entire Chattanooga area will welcome the new nonstop flights and low fares to the Tampa Bay area as an alternative to connecting flights and long drives to other airports. Allegiant will utilize 130-seat, MD-80 series, jet-aircraft on the route. Allegiant Air will begin nonstop, low-cost service to Orlando from Chattanooga Oct. 31.

I fly in and out of TYS on business quite frequently, and the airport is really crying for affordable service, especially now that Independence Air is gone.
Last week I paid $395 to fly ATL-TYS (a twenty-minute flight on an MD80)... and that was a two-months-in-advance purchase! Absolutely ridiculous. Allegiant would do well in Knoxville with flights to Florida or to Las Vegas.

This is exactly why I would love to see Air Tran come into TYS, give some compitition to not just DL but everyone else that flies there and it would cause everyone else to lower their fares. right now the only low fare service available is about 2 1/2 hours away in BNA, low fare service would stop people from flying out of BNA instead of TYS, and yes people do use BNA instead, I'm doing it in about two weeks, I ended up paying half of what I would of paid if I flew through TYS which is only 15min from where I live.
One can only dream though..

That's true. For domestic it's typically much cheapar to fly from BNA than TYS. I'm flying BNA-WAS this weekend for $170 on NW. From TYS they were asking some $380.
For international tickets (at least to Europe) the prices are about the same for both markets.

This is great news for CHA! It'll be good to have some reasonable fares and of course to see MD80s there again. For years I've used ATL and BNA and caught the shuttle van to Chattanooga because of the ludicrous prices for Lovell Field.

The problem with TYS getting this service to PIE is that DL is starting service to TPA from here in mid November, Makes me wonder if there is that much demand for flights to that area
