Great words. Flying profitable routes seem to always help the bottom line.  Smile Needless to say, NK still has a great Caribbean operation out of FLL.

Turks is a very small market that unless you have a large route map in which to fill your flights I can see why it has been dropped. Surprised not to see it go as a seasonal destination though?

There is a lot of shopper traffic between T&C and S. Florida... Shoppers who normally bring back tons of excess luggage.

Several regular AA passengers from GDT had left AA MIA-PLS in favor of NK direct flights to GDT. I have been asked many times when Eagle was going to begin the MIA-GDT route so they could come back for their miles.

It looks like MIA-PLS will be 2X 757 instead of 3X 737 going forward.

Spirit is doing good FLL-PUJ. For the low season they kept 5 daily flights a week while other carriers are flying twice a week. They will be flying around for a while in PUJ.

They've got a few other "testosterone" fueled route choices still like ATL-LAS. This is another route they should rethink as they will be hosed on it by DL, FL, and US (HP). I thought they were flying or wanted to fly ATL-MCO but I can't seem to substatiate that, anyone know?

Kind of surprising given the growth of the T&C.

Any word on whether they are going to expand the PLS airport? I was there in July and it was the most crowded I have ever been in an airport waiting to depart. Also, it took forever to get through immagration going in.

The airport was the only thing I did not like about the T&C.

They will be doing ATL-MCO and ATL-TPA seasonally starting in Nov. We'll see how it goes!!

It depends, I don't know how they did on the GDT sector, but lack of feed probably killed it. I think AA is better suited for the market with more feed and a more appropriate aircraft.

AA has gone back and forth with this all the time, between 2x 757 and 3x 738, for the past six years. It will go back to 3x 738 when the aircraft are available, but with 19 757s going away, and other schedule changes, they can't do 3x right now. MIA-PLS has one of the highest CASMs in AA's entire route network.

ATL-LAS should do well because it originates/terminates in FLL with same plane service. Though the time will come when the flight will simply become FLL-LAS.

Sorry, I didn't mean CASM. I meant the fare to stage length ratio. The route is very short, but the average fare is a $360+ round-trip. PLS prints money as quick as KIN and PAP.

Ah OK... and when you figure in the excess baggage charges that almost everyone ends up paying it is even better. Those coolers full of food are heavy!
