Does anyone know what the Runway configuration will be at the new Suvarnabhumi airport? Will they be 21R/21L as the soon to be former Don Muang? Thanks

I don't think they have three runway opperational as of now. They planed with room to expand to four runways and possibly more if they can find the land.

Soon to be former Don Muang? Don Muang will still be there after Suvarnabhumi opens, it will just get another function... and another TLC.

Asphalt? I would have surely thought all international airport runways are made out of concrete... and thick concrete. Maybe it's asphalt over concrete for some reason. Or maybe they're just writing figuratively.

Don Muang will become DMK on 28 September I believe.

In light of recent events, would NBK Suvarnabhumi still have the grand opening?

Had the opportunity to operate into the new BKK, I was very impressed with what I saw.

The runways and taxiways are very smooth, no need for the girls to wear sports bras at this airport.

Only small problem seems to be with the lighting, the taxiway lighting intensity seems too high, whilst the PAPI on the ATIS is down to 2 nm.

Everything seems to be going well, heard rumours that when 30 aircraft plug into the ground power the circuit will trip and all aircraft will loose power, however when I was there is was reasonably busy with no obvious problems.

The traffic flow does seem better now that we dont need to cross 21R at S like th old airport and that a number of high speed exist allows for closer separation.

I think the new BKK will take traffic away from SIN on the Kangaroo route, being closer to Europe allows for better uplift than SIN especially during the European winter when additional holding fuel is needed.

The people of Thailand should be proud of their new gateway, it is a beautiful and modern welcome to their country.

Thanks Zeke. We are all proud of the new airport. Working there in the first few days giving me great idea of how it will be like.

Not perfect yet, but soon, we will see  Smile

All the good things are coming, I can't wait to see more traffic for the Kangaroo routes!! BTW, new EK lounge is huge...I think they are investing more and more here......  Wink

Let's just blame it on yields.
