Ethiopian Airlines has been chosen ‘African Airline of the Year 2006’ by African Aviation Journal. The key criteria for Ethiopian Airlines to have won the African Aviation Award include its financial performance and overall profitability, passenger growth, route network expansion, fleet modernization, in-flight services, and overall customer care.

I don't know about now, but about ten years ago, during my time in Africa, I considered ET one of the continent's best kept secrets, and one of the very few reliable options for East-West travel within Africa for that matter. I'm not surprised with their winning this award, although it seems as if KQ has come a long way as well over the past decade.

Umm, having recently flown on Ethiopian, I think it is a joke. I'm glad they have new 737s and 787s on the way, but their 757s and 767s are falling apart! I haven't flown on Kenyan Airways, but I have heard better things about them over Ethiopian. But, maybe that is just me. What about South African?

Why sit at home and do nothing when you can travel the world.

Have flown Ethiopian quite a lot and think they are really good, well at least the FA's are! Not so sure about the service on the ground. Pesonally my vote would still have gone to SAA, suppose they just need to show more profit!

Nice one Ethiopian.

While my handle says it all, maybe the start of a wake up call for SAA!

Any word on which alliance they are considering joining? I know that they are in discussions with both oneworld and star alliance.
