I hope they keep the silver, the combo of the silver and red just looks great. I wish they were keeping more of the purple as it seems to give it a richer look.
sorry i have no information regarding whether or not G-VRED will be in the new scheme.

Thats not the new colour scheme!
That a promo one to celebrate the airlines 21st birthday!
It was rumored that "Birthday Girl" would be the first to wear the new colours when she gets repainted back to "Lady Penelope".

Their current livery is just perfect. I hope they stay with it.
But if for the first time since years a livery change can be positive, so Virgin is able to improve it just a little more, then who am I :P

I just saw on CNN that Branson's VS profits to be used to fight greenhouse effect (as discussed in another thread). But they showed a Green-tailed VS! Is that what you were talking about?
It looked just like the current red/blue-lined tail, but instead of the red was green.

No, the red and green is Virgin Nigeria, i'm still trying to find the picture of the new livery. it's not a huge change, but just a little bit fresher that the old one!

So does this mean every week there will be two repeat threads:
"How many VS aircraft in new colour"
and
"I'm flying XYZ-ZYX on VS next month, will I have a new colour aircraft?"

It clearly said Virgin-Atlantic and not Nigeria. There was also an animation in which the red VS tail became green. They reshowed the clip now on CNN as I am writing this messege.

Is this more Branson spin?
Back in 1987 he started the 'Mates' project. This was at the height of concern about AIDS. He declared it a 'hetrosexual disease' and proclaimed that within a decade there would be tens of thousands of British deaths from AIDS every year. He bought condoms from an American manufacturer, Ansell's in Alabama, for 4p. He branded them 'Virgin Mates' and sold them to British retailers for 12p. He demanded the retailers sell them for 12p. He announced he would capture 60 per cent of the British condom market within 12 months and treble the use of condoms in the UK.
At that time he also founded what he called the 'Healthcare Foundation', a 'fulfilment of a lifetime ambition', to be funded from the profits derived from 'Mates'. He said at the time according to 'Branson' by Tom Bower that 'AIDS is fast becoming a heterosexual disease' a problem which constitutes a crisis of monumental proportions. He claimed that within ten years 'tens of thousands' of Britons would die annually from AIDS. He said that if Mates failed he would loose 'many millions of pounds'. He said according to Bower 'It's a loss I am prepared to accept because I care for the people who represent our future health, wealth and prosperity.' As Bower points out, at that time 'No one challenged his sincerity.' Yet a decade later instead of there being 'tens of thousands' of British AIDS deaths there were just 400.
Within six months of launch 35 million Mates' condoms were sold. But then sales started to fall rapidly. Allegations of Mates splitting and bursting appeared in the UK press. Branson legally forced the Guardian newspaper to retract an article with apologies though later it was shown to be substantially true.
After one year Virgin Group sold Mates to Ansell (Pacific Dunlop) for £1 million that was paid to the Healthcare Foundation. The estimated Virgin Group overall losses were £4 million while the £1 million was used for the administrative costs of the foundation. The flame of Branson's 'lifetime ambition' had been blown out.
Donating the profits of any Virgin Group business will be impossible to monitor as they are private companies mostly owned through trusts set up in tax havens, primailly the Virgin Islands. They have extremely complex inter relations and use capital transfers and debts between the multitude of companies to legally reduce the tax paid.
Are the events of 1987 when there was great concern about AIDS anything like the events of 2006 when there is great concern about Global Warming? Is it a coincidence that Branson is spinning now like he spun then? You - and time - can be the judges.

She is back as Lady Penelope... Minus the balloon, it was decided to keep the flying maiden on the tail... The new livery is silver IIRC... but no one has seen any "new" and "Official" photos of it...

Sorry I dont have it anymore. The silver stays, tail all red and tapers on fuselage a-la Virgin America and new font. Thats it.
Oh and dont be surprised if VS paint a plane green to promote their latest green stunt, they had a girl called Claudia in a specially made green uniform when I worked there in the nineties. It promoted the can-recycling when thet started doing that.

Virgin NEVER EVER manufactured condoms. As I said in my original reply they bought condoms manufactured by Ansell in Alabama and sold them under the Virgin Mates trade name. As I also said they sold their Mates business to Ansell around a year after launch about 18 years ago.
What I did not say as I thought it irrelevant to this thread was that Ansell, who are headquartered in Red Bank NJ, turned Mates into a great success increasing their market share to 16 per cent and, after increasing Branson's low, low prices, now have a very profitable business.
Quoting Kaddyuk (Reply 21): Just more venom from you i believe...
Only if you prefer fairy tales to documented history. If you want to learn more about Mates why not start at the ansells.com web site?
