Capital Airlines Question

Absorbed by UA in 1961, Vickers foreclosed on their Viscounts; This was Capital Airlines formerly known as Pa. Central Airlines. I have some questions:

  • Originally was Capital part of the Pa Central Railroad empire?
  • With an imminent take over by UA why would a financially strapped airline change their livery months before? Personally, the second livery is hideous looking in comparison to the classic Capital livery. Capital's final livery reminds me of the
    logo.
  • For a brief period before UA took over, Capital flew Boeing 720 jets. Were any of the 720s painted in the classic Capital livery?

There was a PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD that billed itself as the Standard Railroad of America (later the World). In the 1930s PRR had an association with Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT) for coast-to-coast combination rail-air travel. TAT later combined with Western Air Transport (not sure if correct name) to become Transcontinental and Western Air (TWA). To my knowledge PRR and Capital Airlines was never involved in any way.

No, they were in Full UA colors.

Capital was originally Pennsylvania Central (until ... late 1940s?). Offhand I'm agreeing, no connection to PRR.

Wasn't there another Capital Airlines in the 80's? I can remember being in the old AA terminal in LAS (the one that was all by itself) when I was a kid and seing the inaugural flight from LAS to either NYC or DC. I can't remember which one.

Yes,
They were established in '46 a charter company.

In 1979 the became a scheduled carrier.

It folded on Nov. 25, 1984

I am truly embarrased to admit this, but...
I cannot believe that I have made it to the age of 34, AND am College educated, and did not know that Capital meant the city or location and Capitol meant the actual building.
Did everybody else know about this? I feel so cheated.
