With respect to ORD-FRA, remember that UA and LH revenue share across the Atlantic, so exchange of capacity between the two is not all that uncommon. Right now, 944 and 940 are both 772s, while LH 431 is a 744 and LH 433 is a 346 (both go to 343s for the winter schedule). So, in the summer schedule, if LH needed one of the larger aircraft for some other route, the return of a 744 wouldn't be out of the question.

Quoting Cubsrule (Reply 3): (both go to 343s for the winter schedule).
Just a small correction. This winter LH will have a 3-class A346 for the winter on the early flight LH431 - the aircraft starts flying 431 in early December (unless something has changed in the last week.) So this winter we'll see an LH A346, LH A343, UA777 and UA 744 - pretty large increase over last winter!

The *A pdf schedule shows 2 UA 772s and 2 LH 343s beginning on 29 October. Given what you do and what I do, I'd be inclined to trust your information more, but that's what the schedule says.

Yep, there will be 2 A343's for the month of November, but after that it moves to the A346 and A343. So, we're actually both right .

747 to FRA begins Jan 9/10, around then not sure the exact date.
All international destinations to ORD are obviously 767, 777, or 747, with some of these 3-class planes thrown into domestic routes, as well as other versions of these planes that only fly domestically with 2 classes. Currently, this is what I think it is:
767:
GRU
AMS
CDG
LAX
DEN
SFO
744:
PEK
FRA(Starting in January)
HKG
NRT
777:
DEN
LAX
SFO
NRT
LHR
FRA
KIX (Being discontinued?)
Maybe, but I don't think that one is going anywhere. AA is dropping DFW-KIX, however.
Quoting USAF757300 (Reply 10): I know that MUC is also a 767. What about ZRH? or is that only from IAD?
Yep. ZRH is a 767 and only from IAD. I'd think that UA could make ORD-ZRH work (especially with LX being in Star now) but may be too much capacity with LX already on the route.

Good to see I'm not going insane. That's a constant worry.

Don't forget about ORD-PVG operated by a 777. It seems strange that they maintain a triple 7 on that route rather than upgrading to a 744 (I know that AA also flies the route; but with the current rush to serve China, shouldn't the 777 be overflowing?)
