In about two weeks I will be in Amsterdam for 7 days, and I would really like to do some spotting on rwy 6/24 ("Kaagban"). I will not have a car so I am looking at different ways to get there from the terminal (I will take the rail to the airport from centraal station because I am staying in the Jordaan area of the city). What would you guys suggest, keep in mind that I will have to make my way back to the terminal also. Is it walk able, sidwalks, how to I get there? Thank you very much In advance.

You might want to be in shape if you don't want to rent a car. The only thing really viewable near the terminal is the observation area at the terminal. It is quite a long ways to walk to any of the spotting areas.

Derek,
You can get to the Kaagbaan (two a's) viewing area by bus and 15 mins of walking.
Check out spot nr. 2 at http://www.schipholspotter.com/
There's full details about the buses.

pretty close to the busstop you get off, there should be a bus stop on the other side of the street (for traffic going the other way). I recommend you take a look at the shedule there before you go to the spotting place. They are fairly easy to read.

It might be worthwhile to get your itinerary here or on www.scramble.nl/forum. With luck you may find someone to drive you around. I might be able to drive you in the weekend.

Quoting USAF757300 (Reply 7): Kaagbaan, sorry. I feel like an idiot . Anything else that you guys would suggest?
The luchtvaart hobby shop at Aalsmeerderbrug is always nice. That's about it for AMS unless you want to rent a car. The Aalsmeerderbaan is accesble by public transport, but the runway is closed for repairs after a overhaul that went wrong.
But since you will be here for 7 days, perhaps a visit to the Aviodrome aviation museum in Lelystad? Take the train to Lelystad, from there take busline 148 to the airport and walk a few minutes to the museum.
Another possibility I always quite like is to go to DUS. They got some really nice viewing fascilities. You can take the ICE-3 train, which is really comfortable and pretty fast.
Lastly, the dutch railways (www.ns.nl) give the option of buying a day card for two people. Unlimited use for a full day on all domestic trains (1st class) for only 35 euro. That's 35 euro for both persons, not per person! This offer is only valid during the weekend though. Not sure if this is also available for 2nd class.

Quoting USAF757300 (Reply 9): 6/24 is closed, any idea when it will re-open? I am planning on going to the luchtvaart shop also, thanks for the heads up!!
no, 06/24 is open (have the planes over my house every day), 18L/36R is closed pending investigation and repairs of the top layer.

I have been doing some research, and I would like to know if it is possible to walk to the spotting location from the terminal plaza? Is there sidewalks? or safe places that we could walk? I realize that its going to be far, but I am in good shape and it may be a nice walk If so how do I get there? What about the Luchtvaart shop, can I also walk there from the spotting location? If so how do I get there?

There are sidewalks from the terminal to the road going to Hoofddorp (at the end of the runway. There you go left, there is a bikerspath. At the lights you go left again, and that road doesn't have any sidewalks (maybe the first 200 meters) but plenty of grass to dodge the cars .
