I've seen the one posted by AsstChiefMark before and I believe that guy had only purchased that helicopter that day and decided to take it for a "spin" with virtually no experience.... I think I heard that from one of those "When Fast Animals Meet Slow Children" shows on SpikeTV.

The one by Jpax just looks like a scary experience. Nothing worse than crashing into water and then flipping. However, I heard that helicopter crews are well trained in this situation, so I hope all made it out all right.

The guy had a fixed wing license, but bought the helo with no rotary experience. It was his first training flight and the instructor had gone to fill out paperwork and told the guy not to touch anything. He decided to anyway and you saw the result.

All right lets have a vote, which pilot is the more moronic. The one with zero experience trying to fly a hellicopter or the one with experience who tries to tow a boat. (I couldn't get the third video to run on my computer)

I googled the background to this incident (you can see the N-number, faintly) some time ago. The pilot, who had a lot of fixed wing experience, had decided to start the engine on his own while waiting for his instructor to arrive. Unfortunately, the collector in that type of copter can be activated by a slight touch. Finding himself flying all of a sudden, he did what a fixed wing pilot would do by instinct, "pull the nose down", which would get the copter flying further, and so on with all the basic fixed wing skills out of place. Considering this, he actually does a decent job getting the craft down by cutting the throttle.

MERLIN, third video is about an engine-out problem during take-off after water landing. You can see helicopter falling down 15 feet after takeoff, and loosing control during attempted engine restart

Well, there is one more video on the internet of a yellow-painted russian helo hovering down a street and then crushing its rotor against a tree and a light pole... looks pretty stupid, though i don't know what actually happened.
If God had wanted men to fly he would have given them more money...

Quoting Call911mfc (Reply 16): From what I remember, the guy bought the helicopter with no experience. Not sure, but I think he was trying to teach himself to fly it......
