I wonder if this wonderful loyal NWA employee had to come home to a gutted nest egg and plans on getting in the unemployment line Monday morning along with the crack heads and whores. A guy like this deserves better! He earned every cent of his 401 k and pension, but will most likely end up a produce manager in some store to feed his family.

I'm glad he enjoyed his job. Best of luck for a good retirement.

Not if he has a lot in savings and if he invest right, he will do alright.

I am almost certain that NW people are NOT losing their pensions, unlike those at UA, US, and DL and their crooks for management.

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

Well, if Steenland is Lorenzo and Ichan, then the managment at US, UA, and DL must be the second coming of lucifer.. at least Steenland is letting these hard working people keep their much-deserved and planned for retirment stipends.

He retired as a '67 hire and on the 400. Unless he's got multiple kids in college or a disproportionately young family, he's probably fine. He could most likely hold the FE on the 747-200 in ANC if he really wanted.

aren't you a big bag of sunshine? calm down. it's unfortunate what NW has had to do, but all you do is depress people talking like that. everybody is a critic until they're put in the hot seat and must make similar decisions. instead of speaking poorly of NWA, you could congratulate a man on a successful career.

just a thought...

Only the pilots at DL are losing their pensions. Everyone else's is still intact. Get your facts right next time.

Last I checked, this thread was about pilots... maybe you should get your facts straight.

Since he was a captain on 747-400, I don't think he will have any problems feeding his family in a financial point of view.

Here in Hawaii, a few years back, I recall hearing on the news, that a resident pilot, making his FINAL approach into HNL before his retirement, flew his aircraft right through downtown Waikiki - this is before 9/11 - much to the astonishment of pax and hotel guests, who swore the plane flew right by their hotel lanai, and that they could see the wide-eyed gaping faces of the pax in the windows! He got off, the plane, said he always wanted to do that, his whole career, and retired. He was given a warning not to deviate from his flight path again, or something like that, and laughed all the way into the sunset. True story. Aloha!!!

You say:

"almost certain that NW people, People, PEOPLE are not losing their pensions."

You say this thread is about pilots, yet you decided to bring in everyone else. Had you been referring only to pilots, maybe you should have said, "I am almost certain that NW PILOTS are not losing their pensions."  sarcastic

But, since you want to refer to everyone else, at least DL's groundcrews weren't sold down the river by unions and management, like Northwest's, and given the option to leave or start at $7 hr for Mesaba, Pinnacle, and whoever else will run their outstations.

See ya!

Alright.. so I made a mistake in semantics that could cause someone to mis-interpret what I was saying. However, this thread is about pilots, and I was referring to pilots when I said "people"

Other than badgering me about semantics (which really has nothing to do with the general point I was making in the first place), do you have anything worthwhile to say about the situation?
