There are remote gates that are used for some international flights at LAX. While there are a very limited number of international gates for international carriers at terminals 2, TBIT, and 4, they can still bus people to planes when necessary.
For domestic flights, increased utilization could probably happen in some areas. Terminal 6 is underutilized.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

There is not really space available in T6. CO's gates are there and DL and UA are squatting on the rest. Sombody could probably press LAWA into handing over a copule of gates in T3 but that would not be enough to establish a focus city. I thought that the Vietnamese airline had announced that their first US destination would be SFO. The international facilities at SFO are certainly better than LAX.
