Just for any of you who do not follow the excellent threads on Irish aviation matters posted by Kaitak (latest: "Yet another Irish aviation thread No. 12", and as I think this is of general interest, just wanted to let you know that in 30 minutes time (8am Irish time, 9am in continental Europe) Aer Lingus will be floated on the Dublin and London stock exchanges. At last, after many years of planning and failed attempts, the national airline of Ireland is to be privatised, with the Irish government retaining a 28% stake in the airline. The airline wil be worth 1 billion euro when it goes on the stock exchange. Shares are set at €2.20 (at the lower end of the scale that had been expected to be between €2.10 and €2.80 I think).

Aer Lingus plans to use the money raised and says in its prospectus that it will invest 2 billion to increase its fleet between now and 2012 (If I remember from a link I saw yesterday in the aforementioned Irish aviation thread) the airline plans to double it short-haul fleet and also fund its new long-haul a/c purchase, which I think they're planning on acquiring around 14 or 15 A350's or 787's. So in the coming years we may see EI's fleet at around the 60 or 70 aircraft mark. Good luck to Aer Lingus!

Long live Aer Lingus!

Good enough start. Share prices up 10% within the 1st hour of trading to €2.40 before a small decrease to €2.37.

Long live Aer Lingus!
