I've noticed lately that on google maps satellite views that some airports like BUF or SWF that used to clearly visible have now been blurred slightly so that you can't see as much detail as in the past. Does anyone know why?

Actually I just tried both ROC and SYR today and they were blured.

It has to do with New York State and their security concerns. There are many areas in NY, not only airports, that get this treatment.

Yeah.. that increasing censorship in Google Earth sucks big time. In the Netherlands, all military airfields, in fact all military installations, including the shabby fuel and ammo depot around the corner from my place, have been blurred. All the while EDW is plainly visible, including the B-2 sitting on one of the aprons. I mean, c'moooooon.

It's strange how they are blurred. They are still much better quality than airports that don't have the detail at all that just look super blurry. With these airports its easy to make most things out but just if you zoom in too much the level of detail is limited.

My house is burred but i am living no where near the military bases or anything... i think it just unfinish since google earth covers the worldwide.. lots of work to get to finer details... but i would like google earth to try Live Earth views... that would be awesome so i can see all the planes flying over the ocean and land

The Google Earth view for ATL is waaaaaaaaaay out of date, the photos for it are at least 5 years old. They don't show any of the fifth runway construction, in fact most of the houses and buildings torn down for the project are still shown, and they were torn down about 5 years ago. Some of the roads that were realigned for the project are still shown to be in their former locations. The FL hangar on the northside of the airport isn't even there (not even any signs of construction, and that hangar was built almost three years ago). NW closed their MX hangar several years back and the photos still show it in operation. The former CO/BA/US cargo building and the old USPS building are still on there and they were torn down a few years back.
