Alitalia's 767-400

Hi!

I am looking at flying to Chicago in March and there were some decent offers on Alitalia ex DUS. It was stated that some of the flights were operated with the regular 767-300s and some with the 767-400, which I would of course choose to take since I haven't flown on one yet.
When will these birds be delivered and will they have PTVs?

I know that there have been threads on this before but the search function is not working too well lately.

Thanks!

AZ doesn't operate the 767-400, codeshare flights on CO maybe?

If you refer to the code "764" found in AZ's timetable, it's either a codeshare on a CO flight, or a regular AZ flight on a 767-300ER with a different seat layout than their regular 767-300ERs. AZ has a total of 3 different 3-letter codes for their 767-300ERs, them being 763, 764 and a third that currently escapes me, though it could be 765.

It is not a codeshare but an Alitalia 767-300. 764 is an internal designation for the seating layout. This is good news if you are in business class as they have the new Singapore Airlines-type "spacebed" seats. In Y there is no difference and no PTVs.

The other internal designations are 763 and 762 which is the old Eurofly 767-300s with the (very) old business class seats (which hopefully they change before I fly it YYZ-MXP in March).

Well this is what I got out of the booking system:

AZ626 Mailand (Malpensa) Chicago (O'Hare International) 03.03.2007
10:35 03.03.2007
13:50 Boeing 767-400

Probably a typo if that's a non-stop...CO and DL are the only airlines in the world that operate the 767-400. I've seen similar typos in timetables before, so it's not all that surprising.

Well the thing that I find interesting is that there are some flights designated as 767 and some specifically as 767-400 and NONE as 767-300, which would explain a typo.  Wink

Alitalia do enter their 767s into booking systems as 767-400 and 767-200 even though they have neither. It is not a typo it is to distinguish which seating configuration the aircraft has. Search any other Alitalia 767 route and you will find the same. You will be on a 767-300 with the new configuration and biz class seats. It is confusing but that is the way AZ do it.

guys this has been discussed many times before.

net:

767: Standard Alitalia 767-300 configuration
762: ex- Eurofly 767-300 configuration
763: ex - Air Canada config
764: new Alitalia configuration.

All of the above are 767-300ER aircraft.

So, I just booked MIA-MXP-MIA on AZ637-636 for Thanksgiving. Alitalia.it (and my e ticket) says that the flight will be 767-200/400. How will I know which one it is. Then, the PDF timetable I downloaded says 767, but that timetable expires 28 oct 06. Which plane type will I get. Do I have to wait until the new timetable to know for sure.

BTW, looks like I just missed the 777 seasonal switch by a week, darn it. Now its the big PTV instead of the IFE. Argh! I guess a non stop is still better than a connection.

As it has been explained several times in this thread and a plethora of previous threads: whenever you see the codes 762 or 764 on an AZ flight, which is not a codeshare, it will always be a B763. So no need to get confused or excited.

Seasonal switch is 31 October 2006. You didn't miss the 777.

Sorry, that's not what I meant. I know it's a 763. That is all AZ has. I guess what I want to know is what is the difference between the different configurations. What is the difference between Ex Eurofly configuration and ex AC configuration. The website doesn't show the different configs.

That's what I thought. I figured the switch would happen Nov 1 for the beginning of cruise season, but my ticket says 767-200/400. I guess it is wrong and getting its info from the current timetable. I guess it doesn't matter because I can't choose a seat on AZ anyway. I requested window, but can't choose a specific seat. Hopefully with online check in, I'll be able to.
